Powder coating
I was at a pronature store yesterday for some fishing tackle. At the gun counter there are 2 guy’s. They are talking about powder coating a rifle that was in need of a blueing job. Im wondering about they’re project about baking that rifle for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees.

Here's mine and it's still deadly accurate.

I’m not a fan of it in general.

I love blued steel. I dont trust that powder coating will look good in 20 years.

Nickel plating is the way to go . Had a few of mine done .
Will not wear off or scratch. |

400*f is likely below the point the barrel was tempered to.

i powered coated the stock on my Howa 1500 in the city at the powder mill i thought it would be tough and durable. Needless to say i am ready to sand it all off and go back to paint it chips off super easy

That said these parts don't experience impacts but a set of my cranks do get rubbed and the powder costing has just clouded and I think you could polish it out. I am surprised by the post from Stickynuts I would suspect the stock wasn't prepped well. I like powder coating but I am unsure of it on a firearm, as Chuck stated it is to thick and I could see it filling in writing and ridges. But I could be wrong. |
I know nothing about powder coating, but I thought it was only for metal?
