Gull Lake Whites

It has been a slow fishing season for Gull Lake. Whites are hard to find nowadays not to mention to catch any at all.

Not sure if their population is declining or what is happening out there?

Yes the lake is slowing down. Most notably whites. Was nothing to see dozens and dozens of whites in a day. Now she’s a tuff go.

There has been so much pressure on these fish over the past 3-4 decades it’s not surprising. I recall limiting out in an hour when the limit was 10 back in the early 90’s. Too bad the limit wasn’t reduced to 3 back then...

That lake has been hammered so hard.

I've always did very well on Gull at first ice and again in late March when the Burbs are active, doesn't sound good.

I had a great half day at Gull on Monday :)
The burbs may spawn in March but I find the whites are really on the prowl when the male burbs are. And, they are just starting to prowl. The aggression I saw from whites yesterday was a welcome change. I couldn't react fast enough before they were on my hook...ending up losing most of them because I didn't get a good hook set.

Landing this one early on:

Lost at least 3 others including a real tank that I thought was a pike at first...
Only fished a half day but it was a great half day.

Good to know you have at least half a good day. Will have to give another try to find them.

How is water clarity this year?

Yes. Very clear. Gave my neck a break and put the aqua view mini just under the ice facing downward. Could see perfect down 13 feet. Great cam! And great way to fish.

I still have a Class 'A" Walleye tag. I saved it for ice fishing. During the summer i had no problem catching Fish but try and catch one through the ice ?? been out to Gull 4 different times and not a sniff.

I haven't seen one walleye for many trips to Gull Lake this year. I think you can try deeper around Sandy Point to find them?

Thanks Lenka, Thats usually my summer hot spot but not a sniff there either.

Try them in 10 ft or less. Fish agressive and they'll be there. They are everywhere I normally fished for whites and perch. North half of lake.

Finally caught my first Gull lake whitefish this year on a custom-made Russian Hook. Saw quite a few whites but lost two at the hole yesterday.

Nice and congrats! Looks like I should have gone to Gull rather than Pigeon. I'll kick myself later :)
