The last days of grouse

We took advantage of the warm weather to get out to McLean Creek for some grouse last week. Fortunate to take a couple of bunnies in the process.

See you in the fall ruffies! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a4fb606e68.jpg

Are those Spruce Grouse? I was going to say blues, but I don't see a pale band on the male. I've only ever found ruffies in that area in the winter, but lots of blues in the summer. I don't think I've ever seen Spruce in there.

Both are ruffies. One had next to zero tail feathers which was odd.

She stayed home this day. I have brought her out a few other times. She is still waiting to flush her first birds. 2019 will be her year :)

Look like Spruce Grouse. What colour was the breast meat?

Yeah they do look like spruce upon looking further. Not my birds. Friend shot em. I was the bunny shooter. I just looked at the band on the tail and assumed. I'll ask the colour of the meat.
