Rangefinder
Hey guys, looking for opinions on rangefinders, for archery and rifle hunting.
I'm looking at the Leopold RX-850i TBR and the Vortex Impact. The Vortex hasn't actually been released yet but is coming out soon and will retail for about $260 from what I understand. The Leopold is currently on sale for that price, regular around $320. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Leopold or any insight on the Vortex (I realize no one will have firsthand with it as it hasn't been released yet). Or any other suggestions in the price range? My max right now is about $300. Thanks! Schian |
I know it's not one you have been looking at but I wouldn't count out a sig kilo. I picked one up from wholesale about a month ago on sale and couldn't be happier.

If you don't plan on ranging anything more then 400yrds a rangefinder less then your budget will do. Or save a couple hundred more and buy a vortex imo

I would save $75 more and get a used Vortex 1000. I see them often for $375 or so
They have lifetime warranty even on their electronics |
How far are looking to range out to?

I'd like to get a solid reading at 400 at least. I keep most of my shots well under 300 but would like to range out to at least 400 for reference.
Just heard back from vortex Canada and the Impact is shipping this week. Schian |
I have a sig kilo 850 and I like it. I've ranged to 820 with it, 450 on deer. Great rangefinder for the price. Disadvantage is that it's only black in the display. It's hard to read in lower light.
I have a Leupold RX1000 and I like it too. The glass is better in the sig but this one has backlit display so it comes up red. Way better to see in low light. It does range a bit further but not by much. |

**Update
Decided to go with the Leopold for a few reasons. The sale was great ($100 off), I tried both this one the Sig as recommended by others and the Vortex Ranger 1000, and the Leopold was much easier to read (than the sig) and faster and cheaper than both. Regarding the Vortex Impact, no one knew when or even if they were going to have them so I decided to go with a known quantity that was a good price with good reviews. I just tried it out and was able to range a building off my deck in the city out to 995 yards. No bull. I have photo evidence but can't post pics anymore. Happy so far but there are a lot of functions (maybe too many) that I am going to need to try out and try to figure out. Thanks for the input everyone. Schian |
