Cabelas scope vs Vortex scope
I am looking for a rifle scope and both are almost same price and specs.
Which one you guys will recommend? Cabelas is Cabela's CX Pro HD 5-25x56 Riflescope https://www.cabelas.ca/product/14194...56-riflescopes Oh, it will be going on my 300 wsm hunting gun. Thanks |
Unless somethings drastically changed, I’d go Vortex. Strictly because of warranty should you need it.
|
The cabelas house brand scopes have a reputation for falling apart and being poor quality, I would pick the vortex.
|
Am I out of the loop, or behind times? When did these power scopes become hunting scopes??

Some of the top tier Cabela’s scopes used to be made by Meopta, if that’s the case I’d take it over the Vortex, but the Vortex has the better warranty as mentioned. I’m also in agreement about that’s an awful lot of juice for a hunting scope. Good luck on your quest.

you could buy a swarovski for that price lol

Why not make it a poll, with Neither as a third option? |
Cabelas had some riflescopes called Cabelas Euro. They were made from Meopta in Czech Republic and were 100 time better than Vortex.
Cabela does not say were the actual CX line is being made - it is most likely made in China so as Vortex Strike Eagle models. |
Cabelas
I have the covenant 7 in the same power. Really like it-for what I use it for but i feel is it quite large and heavy for hunting. Found mine at a great sale price.

At that price point, if you want a ballistic turret, I would go with this:

Vortex if not anything else the warranty
I have found over the last year the quality of Cabela/Bass brands have gone to ****. |

Personally, I wouldn't put either of those scopes on a hunting rifle. |
Well guys thank you very much for your experienced advices. I decided not to go with Cabelas brand because talking to Cabela’s salesman in the store, I was told that it has a 60 day warranty and the Cabelas sales man advised me to buy vortex over Cabela’s any time.
Reading more comments about it being so heavy and bulky for a hunting scope, I am reconsidering to drop both brands and leaning towards Swarovski or Nightforce. Thanks again, you are all 😎 awesome |
First and only experience with a Cabela's "scope" was a fellow shooter at the range on a .270, every time he would shoot, I would hear bang ouch, bang ouch, bang OUCH looked over asked what was wrong? he said every time I squeeze the trigger I get the scope in the eye .... (not an inexperienced shooter)..few seconds later rattle , rattle clang as his new scope hit the garbage can.
Personally the Vortex is a "better" scope but there are much better options. |

Sightron ... overlooked by many, Loved by those who know.

Alot of scope lens are ground in the Phillipines, but could be made in Bangladesh with equal results.
The glass grinding and polishing, the CNC, the Quality Control is all computerized, in other words, no human hands to mess it up. Coatings are no industrial secret any more, and with the glass being top notch, and the tubes being high quality, alot of the brands are being equalled out in feature and value and price. However, that leave warranty as the selling feature. We picked up a Vortex 4 x 12 over the holidays, and it is a very impressive scope. What is more important is the no haggle lifetime warranty. I do not need an argument on whether the failure was abuse or not. Drewski |

Good luck with your decision whichever way you go... |
That strike eagle is a big scope. I wouldn't buy a cabelas branded scope. Someone is making the for cabelas specifically.
I just ordered a razor hd lht 3-15x42. Couple hundred more but its getting really positive feedback. Clear 15 power is better than blurry 20 power! Sent from my SM-A530W using Tapatalk |

Ok I got the vortex eagle scope and I really like it
Thanks for all you inputs I like vortex eagle so much that I ordered vortex new Razor AMG Let’s see once it arrives |
Vortex
I tried both on a 308, within 100 rounds the cabelas covenant went so blurry ya couldn’t see through it, so I exchanged it and it went on a .223.
Put the vortex diamond back on my 308 and it works really well, but the reticle is not as nice in the cabelas covenant. But it will out shoot me. That’s my $2 worth, cause ya can’t buy nothing for $0.02 anymore lol. 😁 |
NINJABABY I think you made the right choice. I would have looked at the Razor 3-15 LHT for 400 more. Let us know how you like the Strike Eagle it seems like it should be a good scope. I am still testing a Covenant 5-25x56 I bought it was a lot cheaper. Thus far it still works but maybe my 7 mag will tell the truth.
