Cigars and pipes
 

Anyone else here a smoker of either pipe or cigars? If so what are you folks having and where do you get it. I just got a taster pack of Garcia and Garcia my father. Along with a wonderful Sumatra leaf by Oscar. On the pipe side I still have a Dunhill night cap tim and Presbyterian mixture im working on. Im banking on the smoke killing any covid in my mouth 😂

I enjoy both. My cigar of choice is a Romeo #2. Any time someone I know goes to Cuba I get them to grab me a box. I went down 10ish years ago and smoked 2-5 cigars a day for 3 weeks trying to find a new favorite. Came home with Romeo #2 still my fave lol.

I haven't smoked pipe in years, but stumbled across my old pipe cleaning out junk and got a hankering. Anyone know of an online seller of pipe tobacco in Canada? I like the fruity pipe tobacco but its probably illegal now.

Victory Pipe has a good selection and fair prices for tobacco. Every once in a blue moon, I have a bowl of Macbarren Chery Ambrosia, or Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish. I think I maybe used it 3 times over the summer, by the fire pit? I probably will have another bowl or two next summer. It's a rare thing, but I enjoy it.

Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure #2 is my personal favorite. I usually get them while in Cuba but that won't be happening for a while so there's a guy at manning crossing in Edmonton I like to go see. His store is called Tobacconist Havana, he's a pleasure to deal with. Absolutely loves his cigars. I bought too many cigars in Cuba once and didn't have enough room in my humidor when I got home so he was kind enough to let me store them at the store until my new one was seasoned and ready to go.

I love the Epi 2's. They are a great, mild, everyday cigar.
When I've got more time, my absolute favorite is an H. Upmann #2 or a Monte #2. Kind of tied there.

There are a few dog rockets in Cuba now that they've introduced a couple of machine-made options, but overall they've got the corner on cigar flavour.

Having said that, I don't mind that spicy taste from Nicaragua every once in a while either. CyB, Now known as Joya, are a very well built cigar with great flavour. I prefer the Red.
And the CAO Brazillia is worth mentioning too.
As I said before though.. it's hard to beat that Cuban 'twang'.

There used to a Cheap Smoke store in town here and the house brand wasn’t bad. I enjoy a camp fire cigar when I have the time to sit and enjoy it.

I enjoy prince albert tobacco. Nice flavor great burn. Pick up when i go south. So Im currently dry.

I find Cubans to be hit and miss for the money. Honduras has been a really good one to me. Good and consistent flavor. Gurkha grand reserves has been a go to for the past little while.

I would have to beg to differ with you on flavor. While I enjoy a good Cuban there are tons of very tasty cigars made elsewhere.

As far as Cuban's go some of my favorites:
- RyJ (Romeo y Julietta) Churchill
- RyJ Short Churchill (better than the standard Churchill)
- Partagas Series D #4
- Cohiba Esplendido

As for non Cubans some of my fav's:
- Arturo Fuente Anejo "The Shark" or "No.48"
(you can't get boxes of the shark so I usually get a fiver of those and a box of the 48's)
- Rocky Patel (most anything) two of my most favorite RP's

- Oliva
Series V
Master's Blend 3
- Padron Series 3000 or 5000 in robusto or churchill vitola
- Camacho (either the Corojo Churchill or the Triple Maduro)

I could go on for a while with the non Cubans but that's a good list to get you started. Note, I tend towards stronger cigars (like the Camacho Triple Maduro....not for the faint of heart and should be smoked after a good meal). If you're just starting out, start with mild to medium strength cigars and avoid smoking on an empty stomach.

I've smoked a ton more cigars than I listed above in both Cuban and non Cuban cigars. Whenever I go to the B&M I always buy at least one I've never tried before.

I have friends and family in the US and make frequent trips and always bring back my 50 per person allowed. Which means I typically bring back 100 as the wife and I go together. Whenever family comes up to visit, I have them bring me some (I buy them and have them shipped to their house). Also, I hit up friends/family who travel to the US or Cuba to bring me back cigars. Occasionally I get family/friends to ship me some cigars via USPS/Canada Post.

We smoked some very fine cigars to celebrate my younger brothers first ever bull moose a couple weeks ago (2 of my 3 brothers smoke cigars).

If you're ever in the Edmonton area, Burlington Tobacconist on Whyte Ave is an excellent store. Also, you may want to check out Cigar Chief (in ON) for a source.

I remember when we could smoke in Burlington on Whyte. They had 3 stools and a bar (no alcohol). You could sit and smoke and have a pleasant conversation with guys you had never met (unless you were a regular).

With the advent of the smoke police Burlington built a smoking room in the back but eventually even that wasn't good enough.

When I was smoking cigars daily Clubmasters elegantes (green box) from Brazil normally, sometimes Guantanameras on the weekend.

I went to James j fox in London. They had a lounge to smoke one of the last in the city. Absolutely awesome. Bought a cigar wandered around the churchill museum and ended up sitting in the chairs chatting with some of the staff.

You still can smoke inside........in the back.........you just have to be a member.

LA TIENDA cigar shop on 84th Ave and 109 st, still operating was always a great place to enjoy a cigar with other cigar enthusiasts :)

Picked up my first pipe a few days ago. Loving the taste.

The boss put together a little piece of wall art out of some of my old cigar boxes.

I have a hard time throwing them out. I used to have tons of them. Now that I think about it, I have a lot less boxes than I used to have. Maybe she's been slowly been tossing them without me knowing? Lol
