My Knife Collection

3 Attachment(s)
Seems to be a lot of interest in knives since the post on best knife for $200 or less. Thought I would share the collection that I have. This is thinned out considerably from what it once was! These are the ones that I really don’t think I’ll part with. Some are easy to find and buy, a few not so easy to acquire. Interested to see the collection that others have, post them up.

There’s some nice looking knives there

tirebob 02-16-2022 10:16 AM

I collect knives, mostly traditional slipjoints but I have a variety. Interesting is my antique miniatures collection. I would have to count them all up but there are well over 80 of them, all actual functioning slipjoints with proper backsprings and not just friction folders. Most are hand made and many go back well into the 1800's.

I will maybe pull my cabinet apart later and get some good shots... Here are a few samples.

Just a few, still thinking of buying a Crotts or dozier.

Dont post these, next thing you know there will be an OIC banning all knives. Customs is already going after them.

See you have a Laguiole in there… Looks like one of the Lee Valley ones? I have a few Laguioles I picked up while in France at Laguiole as well as a few Laguiole en Aubrac. I have an affinity for them! :)

Try ordering a folding knife from outside the country.

I ordered an OKC rat 2 in d2 from blade hq in the state's it shipped and never showed up, got in contact with them and they said it showed up in their system as delivered, a couple months later I got a letter from cbsa saying they confiscated it as it was considered a "gravity knife" and that I had 30 days to make arrangements to send it back to the shipper or it would be destroyed but by the time I got the letter the time was already past due, so I ordered two of them from warriors and wonders in BC, now I don't order anything folding unless it's already in Canada

I have never handled a RAT 2 but as far as I can tell from written descriptions it does not fit the original definition of "gravity knife". I think this is an example of a petty bureaucracy increasing its self-importance by reading a regulation and interpreting it to its so-called advantage and the disadvantage of all knife buyers.

I gather that repeated appeals to CBSA and to the federal government over the last 3-4 years have done nothing to change this situation. This is one more example of the kind of government action that is fueling the convoys and blockades.

PS I have an Ontario RAT 3 and I can see why you'd like the folder.

Is that a Skookum bush knife on the left in the first picture, or do my eyes deceive me?

obsessed1 02-17-2022 01:32 PM

Here is some of mine. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5eb5e73c6b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f957fab76d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0f940242b5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8853368fb2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...90ecf4dfd9.jpg

Yes, but it was not made by Rod Garcia, it was made by A.S Harding a custom knife maker from England.

Kephart knife

Ken3134,
The very first knife in the middle pic looks very much like a Kephart style knife.
Do you remember where you got it?
Thx in advance,

Huntsman

A Bark River Kephart if I'm not mistaken. This guy sells them (at least in theory):
bushcraftcanada.com

I wish I had some cool cabinet to display them...they live in a couple ammo cans lol. I have a few others scattered around in different packs that get used regularly. I've been collecting off and on for over 20 years now.

I rode my bike down to our place in AZ a couple of years ago to leave it for the winter and was flying home until we made it back down. I had forgotten my folding knife which was in my pocket would not be allowed on the flight home as I only had carry-on for the way back so I mailed my knife back. It was a CRKT that I purchased in Canada. It never made it through customs as they labeled it a centrifugal knife, which it was not. Many attempts, emails, letters, phone calls etc., and still told to pound sand. The last conversation I told them I better not see one of their officers using it to open a bag of drugs on Border Security. That call was not well received :sHa_shakeshout:

It’s a Bark River Kephart in 3V steel. These are true Kepharts with thinner blade stock, but is a convex grind. The knife Horace had was likely not convex. EBay or Bushcraftcanada.com is the best bet to find one.

Some more of my collection, the one on the far left I proudly bought my dad with my own money when I was about 12 I think. It has "Captain Cook" etched on the blade :) I don't think he ever used it but I was pretty proud of it.

The top blade on the left was my only attempt at knife making. I basically took a grinder and ground away all the parts that didn't look like a knife and epoxy glued some walnut scales on. Once you get it sharp it stays that way but what a job to sharpen.

The only ones I consistently use are the large Old Timer knife and the drop point Old Timer.
