160 gr in a 1:8 twist?

So,,,,at around 3200 fps with a .284 in a 160
grain is the 1:8 twist too fast for an accubond?

What makes a twist rate too fast? What are the symptoms? What happens?

That’s what im asking, i know that the faster twist is really for the bigger bullets but would the 160 be considered on the small side for a 28 nosler with the 1:8, last years model was a 1:9 twist

No

You will be fine and good luck on the hunt coming up.160 to 180 is good,i wouldn't go any lower, but that's just my opinion .The 168 lrab may work well along with the 180 to 195 bergers when you get back.

I bought a box of ELD-X 162 Hornady’s and a new Hornady book with hopes of trying them out, took the wrapper off the book and guess what,,,no load data for the 28 Nosler, what the heck,,54 bux for that darn book

Lotsa stuff to look at online to give you a starting point and nosler has it on there accubond load data site for the 28 with 160's ,but I know a guy that shoots 160 out of his 28 nosler and it shoots good.

Nosler has been my go to for my other guns,,,jus wanted to play is all, hard to believe there is no data in that book for it

Yes that is kinda dumb on there part for not putting that data into it,specially if you paid 54 bucks, phone them up and tell them you need the data for that bullet and cartridge, they may say get lost or just pass you to a tech and write it down.If not bring the book back.

Plus they load factory ammo in the 28 nosler with the 162's eldx,so why not have it in there book.

I did that,,,they said so sorry, cant return the book, plastic is off it lol. I’m hooped i think, they said they have no data for the 28 nosler at this time

Your probably best to use a rifle that you have some experience with.
I know the shiny new toy is awesome but taking old failthful will probably give you a lot more confidence at crunch time

Congrats on the new rifle

Bingo!

There ya go, AO members to the rescue.

But I think Marky is right, I would definitly be using a rifle I have a bit of history with myself.

I also think Marky is right,if you have another rifle that shoots well I would go with the one that I have some trigger time on and go knock over a couple elk.and then take your time for the break in part of your new rifle which you don't want to over do it and not be ready .Just my 2 cents and go enjoy your hunt.First day of a new rifle can be a real nut buster when your in a hurry.

Very nice of 260 rem to post this info when a guy is in a pinch, good for you 260.

I need to take two guys as I’m sure you all do. My 300 will be the daily gun but if something happens to it I gotta make sure the back up is good to go. The other option I have available is a 25-06 and I’d rather not use that. Thanks for the data very much appreciated. Thx to all that responded

Why?

marky_mark 01-16-2019 08:37 AM

He’s setting up a 28 nosler not a 7mm. I’m pretty sure the rest is self explanatory
