Spring bear
Was gonna be doing my first bear hunt this spring the week of April 23rd. Just wondering how this cold weather and all the snow will affect it. Will the bears be out of hibernation by then and hitting the baits or is the weather going to delay everything? What sort of action can a guy expect, if any?

My guess would be you're about a month too early.

Expected action - ZERO

Don’t know what area you’re hunting in but I would suspect that with all the snow they’re quite cozy where they’re at. Weather is supposed to change tomorrow so maybe their dens might get a little wet and wake them up. Got a report of a grizz wandering around here last week.

But grizz can come out at any time, a few years ago a couple of surveyors were killed near Grande cache in January. |

Save your gas money for may long week end.
Successes is around 100 % then. Grass on the roads and cut lines are just perfect for them to come out and feed. |

That's what I think I was setting up that camp when it happened

where the bear?
If it rapidly heats up theres a chance itll flood the bear out of the den even if we get another cold burst after the heat. buuuut you might be better waiting another month.
We just dropped bait and nothing yet in an area where theres usually lots of action by now. |

There was definitely an incident with a bear coming out of its den a few years ago. I don’t recall that there was a fatality tho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sledding through 4' of snow East of Calling Lake last weekend.
Won't be any bears out any time soon up there. Drewski |
If you can, optimize your time and money spent on a hunting trip and wait until mid May, you can fully expect an extremelely low success of getting a bruin if your planning for third week in April...25 years of bear hunting and I`ve seen the odd grizz track end of April....no blacks until the cutblocks and ROW/pipelines start to green up, big boars really get moving beginning of June as the rut starts for them....good luck

extremely low bruin hunting success mean less legal headaches at least. |

You'll definitely see no mosquitos and most likely no bears. Theres no rush and why tempt a heart attack.

I did not bait this year too many of my bro are just hitting up there baits
|
Dave i'll put my baits out as soon as the snow goes likely around May 1 My baits are so established they are all usually hit within 2-3 days of baiting and being an old guy I have a strong aversion to hauling 55 pound bags of oats thru snow... for that matter I have the same aversion to hauling the oats even on dry ground but I'll suffer the latter for the fun of taking a newbie out bear hunting.

saw a big boar black last sunday with wife and 4yr old at chip lake on family hike. saw him at 50 yards shouted at it ran right at us to 30 yards stood up looked at us shouted more arms going this time. 5 seconds decided to turn around. no gun no stick straped in snowshoes.:scared0015: they are out and they are hungry. looked like he was hunting dead fall for rabbits.
