The elk rut is just starting to Peak, most few weeks behind but you can always call .

My age old advice; "Elk rut in September, Moose in October and deer in November". Probably Mother Natures way to keep a horny moose from jumping a elk.

Moose are talking & racking bush east of Elk Island. Not really looking for a fight yet.

Saw a bull with bloody paddles and velvet hanging off his antlers. Starting to strip it off. Unfortunately no moose draw in that area this year.

Seen this big guy chasing the other decent one.

Check a camera 500m away and i got them sparring 500 some photos. Id say they are sizing up competition, seeing where they sit on the totem pole so they don't risk it come the real fights. Patience and some tree raking may produce something given a bull in the mood is within ear shot.

Good luck out there

This past weekend we saw some good sign but not yet the rutting behaviour/sign we expect to see in two weekends.

Seen two bulls feeding beside each other Thursday in 236. Will be out not this weekend but next weekend to see if I can arrow one.

Was bugling elk on Sunday the 13th - had a bull moose fire up. He broke a lot of trees and gave me a growl bark! Had him going for about an hour. This weekend should be primed for some pre-rut fighting, followed by a week of down, running into the first week of October when the breeding Rut should START!

heard a guy moose calling steady for like 30mins on the weekend while sitting in my blind...and heard a gun shot shortly after...not saying it worked for him but that's what it sounded like.

Awesome picture!

During this period the sizing up is happening - I suppose that one would likely get farther ahead with soft grunts and raking as opposed to cow calls at the moment. Won't be long, though... :sHa_shakeshout:

Still bulls in bachelor groups right now and lots of pictures and sightings of the juvenile delinquent behavior of the "boys" running around pre-rut.

It won't be long now ...... one of them will pick a fight and once good ol' pals will become the competition.

Called in three bulls in the peace country last weekend using cow calls, bull grunts and raking. All hung up and weren’t keen on coming in like freight trains. Stuck to thick bush, challenged one and got within 20 yards but it was still too thick. The young bulls are coming in to see what’s up. This coming week should be good!

Watch the ground pre rut moose will make some narrow one hoofed long scrapes same behavior as a deer he will make them wandering around.

Rut pits he will make when he's tending a cow.
