trapline info
Is there any way to get a trapline map with trapline numbers and info with who owns what line anywhere. Thanks
|
You can buy a Registered Fur Management Area (RMFA) map for about $26. at Maptown in Calgary. It does not have any info on who owns what. You would have to go to your local F&W office and they may help you...Or they may not! I am sure some of the guys on here may be of some assistance if you could be more specific.:)

F & W will quote "privacy act" and won't give you the info. Other trappers in the area may be able to help though. Good luck

That is correct in regard to Fish and Wildlife, but if you know a surface landman or company they can get you the trappers contact information. It would be at their discretion to give you that information though, and if they didn't know what your intent is, likely they would not give it to you.

Don't see why the F&W wouldn't give that info out, you can find out any land owner info from the county; anything from the taxes they pay to how much they paid for the land. Why wouldn't Albertans be able to know who is trapping their land?

This is in spite of a FOIP decision that names of individuals in possession of governement issued "discretionary benefits" (licences, permits, leases, etc) is Public information. Remember the reporter who recieved the names of all hunters in possesion of a Grizzly bear tag? Here is the Privacy Commisioners decision explaining the ruling. Use it remind government personnel that the "privacy act" does not apply to this type of information request. ALBERTA INFORMATION AND PRIVACY COMMISSIONER ORDER 98-018 http://www.oipc.ab.ca/downloads/docu...r.ashx?id=1931 Our government must be trained to stop witholding public information. |
Pm me the trap line number.

I got tired of being jerked about and being lied to by the local Fish and Wildlife Offices over the many years and took it upon myself to get the real answer. I posted a thread on the subject which today is on the bottom of page 15 and likely will be page 16 tomorrow. The thread is titled "Trapper's names and line numbers are NOT protected"
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act is made up of two parts. The first part is "Freedom of Information" and it is this part of the act that most people never considered. It allows us to know only the person's name. The second part of the act is "Protection of Privacy" and it appears that it is always this part of the act that everyone takes note of. This part protects the person's personal information such as address or phone number etc. |
