Coons are moving lots this time of yeara
, too bad they are of little value for the work involved .. a cubby set with conibears works good as well as snares of trails . The big problem is keeping away from birdhunters with dogs .. not worth catching a pooch . Possibly the best time is midwinter when they resurface for mating season , mid Jan /Feb . With a little snow they are easy to target . |
Dawgs are not a problem whatsoever! Just use the DP traps. They have taken America by storm. A little cat food in the trap, on a coon run or squirt a little fish juice on the ground near trap.

Oh ok that’s wat I was thinking targeting em mid winter as we have no shortage of em up where I am in sask now that we re located to help keep ma on the farm since my ol man passed
|
The problem is they kinda go to sleep in mid winter. If we have a nice november, then pound em then. They do come out a little in the dead of winter, and when they do they are quite a stunning creation. But the coons are waaaaay more active in the fall and spring. You can get some real nice coon in the very late season. Some but not all, you will get a few scratch necks in the late. Late as in when the beavers start to roam.

I'd be interested in buying a prime raccoon pelt if anyone traps one. No need for it to be tanned as I have a fur buyers license. |
