Best fly line for roll casting?
Hi,
What is the best fly line for roll casting? Thanks, RMS |
floating

A weight forward floating line will be a good place to start and learn. You actually can roll cast with any line. It is a cast you should have in your repertoire and use almost as often as standard overhead cast.
|
Really should be a floating line and the long belly of a double taper will roll better/further than the 30 ft head on a weight forward taper.
Go with DT_F. |
If you have the coin, go for the Rio Intouch Single Hand Spey Line. Perfect for roll casts. Also works well for overhead casting.

Rio Grande!

Joan Wulff triangle taper, roll cast better than any other line I have used.

Rio came out with a single hand Spey, and they also have an indicator extreme. Both of those are probably pretty good hahaha

I gather this is for a single hand rod
R u looking for dry fishing or sink tip Skadgit line is great for sink tips OPST makes a Short head 12-15 feet depending on rod It's called a commando head. Works great Snowbee and bellulah make a good short Head scandy line. I would use around a 23ft On a single hand rod I've used many lines I have 2 switch rods And 2 Spey rods also have a 10ft single handed Rod. I use both scandy and skagit lines on My single handed rod |
For roll casting nymph rigs, the favourite I have is an indicator line from Rio. For dries I usually use Rio gold that is on my spool as I don't specifically have a line for roll casting.

Rio is ok but not my first choice
Snowbee is best line I ever used Then next belluah line |
