Thanks, I wish they were just out of the package :) Just treat my stuff really well. They were due for a checkup and maintenance.

Nice rig. The nippers are nice too. I wish I could justify paying $50 for a pair. Haha, coming from a guy who has a Hardy Zenith rod and 2 Hardy reels.

One day... Maybe.

Do you like your Orvis rod? Is it the Helios? I've been meaning to try to one.

I couldn't justify the nippers either they were painted to match our reels and cost about a $100 each. Ended up getting them for free from Abel as a gift for the both of us. Very nice of them and we are very happy with them.

The Helios is awesome, it is very light and casts very well. I couldn't decide between the Sage and the Helios but after casting it a few times and going back and forth the Helios just felt like an extension to my arm :) Surely enough the wife loved it too so had to get her one as well, however I had my heart set on the Sage ONE.

Where did you pick up the Abels? Did you order them direct from Abel?

Lornce 01-19-2013 02:29 PM

My favorite set up is my Loop Opti Stream with a Loop classic reel. Sweet casting.

Locally they have them at http://www.bowrivertroutfitters.com in Downtown Calgary. Beautiful reels!

goldscud 01-19-2013 05:55 PM

Beautiful art. Helios is a sweet tool.
My stuff is a bit more earthy...

Braggadoe, what do you use for a reel on that D river, chrome taming rod?

braggadoe 01-19-2013 06:59 PM

goldscud.......the 9141 is my favourite salmon rod, i like the 7136 for steelhead. both have galvin reels on them. i've fished with them all, and just don't much care for the heavier reels.

are you getting ready for turkey season??

goldscud 01-19-2013 07:12 PM

Ya, I'm thinking about it. It's time to try and stick one with an arrow this year. You have inspired me. I should have had my bow with me last year when the Toms came running in to pound my jake decoy.

Nice rig, but that is a huge freakin rainbow! Did it hit 30?
:jawsmiley:

goldscud 01-19-2013 09:08 PM

I don't think that one quite made it. Fun on my Dad's ancient bamboo though. That's the rod I learned to fish with as a kid.

Broken hook, not starting your forward cast soon enough.

Vey nice setups guys and some really nice photography! It truly does not matter what the setup is as long as it works and gets you out there to enjoy it. Keep it coming, lets pass some more time.

BobLoblaw 01-19-2013 11:34 PM

Nothin' too fancy-schmancy here.
I did just upgrade my 5wt reel to a nice Sage...(that rod will be upgraded soon, as well.)...

http://imageshack.us/a/img37/8054/pc311105.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img191/9190/pc311107.jpg

This is the reel it replaced; the drag is garbage, probably will use it as a paperweight now...

http://imageshack.us/a/img502/3424/pc112121.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img94/9025/p5040307.jpg

My 7ft 3wt TFO rod & reliable Okuma reel...

http://imageshack.us/a/img441/5678/pb232064.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img713/5640/pb232089.jpg

Even less expensive Okuma 5wt reel that I just lined with a sink tip to throw streamers...

http://imageshack.us/a/img84/7062/1000560m.jpg

My favorite outfit! 6ft 2wt TFO rod with an Orvis battenkill reel...

http://imageshack.us/a/img851/9075/cartoon2wt.jpg

Lots of fun to fish for cutties with the 2wt twig...

http://imageshack.us/a/img710/921/p9240732.jpg

...but, it can handle bigger fish, as well!
