REM Classic 6.5x55 Swede

Original factory barrel with a 1/9 twist has been shot out - approx. 3000 rounds over the years

Looking for your thoughts on a new barrel and twist

I prefer 140-160gr bullets so my thinking is a 1/8 or a 1/7.5 twist

Thank you all up front for your suggestions - Stob

Call Bob Jury, he's an Alberta barrel maker. I've got two of his 1 in 8, 6.5's, you won't be disappointed.

I'm currently shooting Woodleigh 160 RN out of an RKS 8 Gain twist.
It handles all bullets from 129 thru 160 very well.

By far, the majority of 6.5 bullets (even long pointy ones like Bergers) will be optimally stabilized by the 8 twist or slower. I’ve had at least 10 eight twist barrels and only one 8.5. Never had a stabilization issue with any of them. If you are planning on shooting copper solids, it would be a good idea to check for the recommended twist given that copper is lighter by volume than lead core...so may be longer in equal weight bullets.

I concur. Recently installed a Jury 6.5 1:8. Shoots 1/2" groups easily from a sporter rifle. Had Henry Remple chamber and fit the barrel.

Tremendous value.

1:8 Does it all.

I wouldn't go any faster than 1-8 as it's the perfect twist for 6.5
