animal mounts and the sun
just curious, if you have a mount close to a window and the sun hits it for a few hours of the day, can it cause damage to the color of the hair, or fade the antlers??????
|
yes it sure can fade it.

I just got back from Ontario. My brother in law was out here in 95 and killed an elk. Since that time, the animal has been hanging in a stair well, under a sky light. My brother in law never realized how faded out the bull was, till I brought out some pictures we took at the kill. Sad fact is that sunlight is a bleaching agent on just about everything.

so that would be a yes to both antlers and hair. hmmm. what if it justr gets the glow from the sun, but "just" out of direct contact with the suns beam?
|
I think almost any room is going to have some 'glow' from the sun....if you're worried about keeping it from fading, keep it in a spot thats away from DIRECT sunlight and you should be fine....

thats about the amount of direct sunlight it gets, the glow can be brighter on some days you you get the idea with the shadows, thing is i really dont want to move it if i can help it.:(

Looks minimal to me......I would enjoy it where it is......beauty mount again man....I'd love to know what that 4x4 scores....
I didnt know the sun actually came out in Edmonton? LOL.... |
LOL, yeah all the smog and polution from the refineries lets the sun come out for 5 minutes everyday:D
thx on the buck, i know i posted him but those ones showed the light i was talking about. |
You can't close the blinds for those few hours a day when the sun is coming in?
|

which brings another question.................... whats the best way to dust a mount? |
Nice Deer. All the mounts that I have, 20 years worth have very little if any fade, but they have been kept out of direct sunlight, but were in light similar to yours. You should be more than safe.
|
There is a duster specifically designed for mounts.....but a feather duster will do the job too.
|
Just use a damp cloth and go with the hair.....but I would move it.....it will fade so slowly you won't notice it but when you do....it'll be too late.
|
i was told by artistic taxidermy to use a damp rag and after it is clean to use hairspray and a fine comb to comb it.
