Gun Dog trainers in Alberta

Looking to get my Pup some gun dog training, we are at the limits of what I can teach him and would like some expert help, who's out there for trainers? I know of a few but want to explore my options before choosing one.
thanks

The best way to train any dog is to train the person holding the leash.

Answer the questions that Diesel asked and you'll get lots of help.

location?

Also easier to help out if we knew what area you were in before offering suggestions.

Ill throw one out anyways.

Maunty at Ringneck Kennels. http://ringneckkennels.com/training/

2 good friends have had their dogs trained here. I have seen first hand the results.. Both are Spot on amazing bird dogs.

As stated earlier, answer those questions and you'll get better assistance.

I'm a firm believer in teaching yourself (as someone else said, teach the guy holding the leash). I have a 9 month old lab that I've done on my own (first gun dog) and she is a retrieving monster. I used several different resources but the bases of her training was a book called game dog by Richard A. Wolters and it has worked amazingly. I have copied the link to the book in a video format but the book for sure goes into more detail as well as diagrams etc etc.

Anyway, if you don't want to train yourself as someone else stated Maunty at ringneck kennels does awesome work. I was going to send mine there should I have struggled with her. I wanted to learn myself as I will be getting many, many more pups and to spend over $3000 to have each one trained up starts to add up over time.

WWBirds on here helped me start my dog. Good guy, and very helpful. Worth a PM and a chat.

x 3 & 4 on Maunty at Ringkneck. We have two dogs trained by him and they are awesome. One of the other trainers on here recently commented on how well they worked.

We've also hunted with probably a dozen other Ringkneck trained dogs and there has never been one that didn't know 100% what the name of the game was.

X 5 with Maunty. Have a 9 month old chocolate lab who has only done a month of obedience with him but came back a different dog. She will be going back next spring for 2 months of hunt training.

Dog is 9 month old Black Lab, will be doing mostly on land waterfowl hunting nothing to serious but would like to have a good solid dog. I wont be doing any hunt tests or field trials with this one. I dont expect to have a championship hunter but would just like a functional hunting partner, I also have no issue putting the time in I just want to make sure I / we are moving in the right direction with his training.

to have a solid dog it takes
obedience consistency obedience consistency obedience consistency obedience obedience consistency obedience
and consistency
is the main key
also force fetch your pup, if you are unsure of how that's done , that maybe the one part you would want a trainer to instill, and then you take lessons how to carry on with what the trainer taught him
then just work with him,
become a team between you and your dog ,
if that's all you are wanting you can do it all yourself, unless you work away a lot, and don't really have the time together , it takes patience and dedication, but the way I see it is,
if the pup does what you ask of it ,
and his style works for you then you've got what you want ,
if you can join a retriever club
practice with people that are into hunt tests
even though you don't want to go hunt test route , it will help develop a solid hunting partner in your pup
take some seminars, and a handling/training class if its offered by the retriever club
another tool you may want to invest in is an ecollar
watch the Bill Hillmann videos on how to collar condition and use it properly
it can be a great tool if used properly, or it can totally ruin a dog if you abuse its powers
I recommend the DT Systems ecollar it has a hand held piece that you can operate a gun and use at the same time

Another one for Maunty. He trained my lab, and the dog's now a better bird hunter than I am. Nothing bad so say.
