FAce Paint

I am new to the sport of bow hunting and wondering what face paint would be the best to purchase.

Go to Walmart and get it in the kids department. The tubes are dirt cheap , like a buck a tube , especially after Halloween. It goes on easy ,stays on, and washes off easy, Ruby's is a brand I usually get.

Better than anything available in sporting stores.

I just use a camo balaclava, easy.

bsmitty27 12-16-2018 03:00 PM

Or dont use any. Just be still and respect the wind.

Scat? Free and has no chemical smell?

Try sharpie, they work wonders. Even let the kids apply it for you!

Grow a beard, play the wind, don’t hilltop and stay out of the direct sun.

This! Wear a hat or a ball cap; use it to hide the movement of your eyes and keep a shadow on your face.

How are you planning to hunt? tree stand, ground blind, or walk and stalk. I hunt mostly for elk from tree stand..they not so much look up if good back cover don't seem to need face camo. Not so much for whitetail even with face mask and cover lots still seem to give the head bob and foot stomp. yet when we hunt archery in Nov. from ground blind had whitetail 10 yrds from blind and have had them lay down...go figure.

bjc403 12-22-2018 11:56 PM

I prefer to use a face mask or neck gaitor.

gpelker 12-23-2018 12:25 PM

I use hunter speciality - works great, use during elk bow season, scent is bigger issue, I use spruce bows, rub head to toe, carry in vest pockets, elk are used to that strong smell.

we do face paint but its more for fun and its always a good laugh when people do their paint..

stuff that I find is about the best to put on and take off is the Hardy face paint.

Face Paint

If you wear glasses, get one of those mosquito nets that go over your head, it will break any reflection from your glasses.

Coiloil37 12-24-2018 04:42 PM

I gave up on face paint. Every time I was successful I would forget it was on. Typically I would stop somewhere for fuel or a pop and everyone would look at me like I had three heads. I just use a thin balaclava now.

Nikanit 12-26-2018 07:37 PM

I use black over any skin that is exposed. Just try and find me after that

58thecat 12-26-2018 07:41 PM

You don't need that crap....wind....movement...sound....killed many critters at ground level without the Walmart camo....become a hunter....turn wild tv off and some of the other crap too.....get into the woods....watch and learn first hand.

I use the face netting. I don’t go for the full blind, just enough to provide a draw zone. Otherwise I’m bedded into the leaf litter. Get comfy then get very still. On a quiet day when you hear them walk in, you’ll have plenty of time for slight movement and checking your gear. I test the wind with a cigerette before I commit. If it’s not right, don’t sit and stink up the Bush. Have another location that suites the wind.

I tried face paint for a couple of seasons. Kept getting it on my glasses and it migrated to clothing etc. Face mask works nice, pull it off and you're done with it, another advantage is protection from bugs. I like a mesh mask with eye cuts, worked for me.

I think you should try both, I hunted for years without and have gone back to doing that. Ditched camo this last year and went back to Dad's black and green plaid Mackinaw wool Jacket. Just as effective.

Then the leave litter sparks up from your ciggy and you have smoke cover to draw your bow:scared0018:

I gave up on face paint. Camo balaclava is quicker and easier. Doesn't get on clothing, pillow, etc. Don't have to wash & scrub every time you are done. If you are really stuck on paint be sure to get one that washes off easily.

Never used it. But this ^ is the only reason I'd do it. Fun! Opening day with the boys and just goofin around at camp before heading out. That makes sense to me!

BuckCuller 12-29-2018 07:40 PM

Nice never have to reapply.

Definitely the most cost effective way.

beaver hunter 12-29-2018 08:43 PM
