Restricted gun question to a range
Hello , can I take a restricted gun to a gun range that is not my “ home” range if I am a guest of a member ? And I am not a member to that range ?

You would need to direct your questions to the specific range you are considering. Only they would have the answers to those questions.

Yes you can.
|
What you are allowed to do is crystal clear on the license conditions sheet that you are supposed to keep with your RPAL.
|
Your ATT allows you to go any range, gunsmith within the province. Outside of the province you'll have to contact our CFO and the province(s) you're travelling through or to.

What does your ATT or conditions slip say?
There’s your answer. |

I don't have any such conditions slip. What does yours say? OP, if you have an ATT you can go to any range in Alberta, and stay in a hotel if you need to. I do it all the time for IPSC. |

thank you all
I guess my question wasn't clear. I was more looking for information on using the restricted gun at a range that was not my home range ( not necessarily on transporting it to the range).
I have just received my R pal and firearm and was looking for some friendly advise. Thank you to the ones that tried to help me navigate through this question as I try to understand the confusing gun laws we have here in Canada. To the ones that felt this was an opportunity to show everyone how intelligent you are, I appreciate you as well. |

Like somebody else’s gun or a rent to play gun? If that’s the case, it’s easy as all gitty up. Have permission to be at the range, have permission to use said firearm, follow proper range procedures. |

To answer the OP's question, as long as you have permission to shoot at said Range - you can take it to any range in the Province. :sad0071: |

I have an RPAL, but don't have the paper like Dick posted.
|
When you received your RPAL it was stuck to that piece of paper.
That's the way they come to you in the mail. Those conditions allow you to take your restricted to any "restricted approved" range in the province. Not all ranges are approved for restricted firearms. |
One issue not mentioned. The range in question (not your own) must be CFO certified for restricted firearms. Not all ranges in the province are. Some are rifle and shotgun only.

RPAL Conditions
If anyone inadvertently tossed the paper that MUST accompany your RPAL you can request the Firearms Centre send you a new conditions sheet.
NOTE: My wife renewed during the winter and when she received her RPAL we realized they had left off some conditions that were previously attached. When we called the Firearms Centre they sent a replacement Condition immediately. Check your Conditions to ensure they are correct. Another change I noticed on my renewal was that previously my Conditions allowed me to take any Registered Restricted firearm to the range (i.e. a gun that belonged to my wife). The new Conditions now stipulates it must be Registered to me. I can no longer take her firearms to the Range without her. Phil |
I sent an email to the CFO asking for this paper ATT
This is the reply. Hi, Your conditions are directly attached to your license. To go to your range, all you need is your license and your registration of the firearm you are transporting. Thank you. |
My experience was different from Hawken's. Last month I noticed that the piece of paper with my license conditions on it has become tattered to the point of being unreadable from being in my wallet for several years. I contacted the CFP to ask for another sheet to be mailed out to me. I was told that I had to have the original conditions sheet or a photocopy with me to transport my restricted firearms. Then I was told that to mail out a new sheet they would have to issue me a new license and there would be a $25 charge to do this. I guess it all depends on who you talk to...
