US Covid19 pandemic blowing up...how bad will it get?

European countries have banned Americans from visiting

Only a couple ICU beds left in greater Houston area

4 Texas cities have halted elective surgeries

Texas Florida California all blowing up... others look to follow

Border with Canada still closed

Governments refusing to impose mask laws and enforce

US hit a new pandemic this infection peak

Areas worst hit have lowest rate of health insurance.

Disney to remain closed

People are going nuts down there

Americans have been caught lying about going to Alaska and instead going to Jasper and Banff.

It looks like it is going to implode like Italy and Spain and Brazil.

Scott h 06-25-2020 12:22 PM

I don't see the border opening anytime soon.......

I sure hope this is the case until they get their numbers down. Last thing we need is infected tourists. Keep the essential goods moving but that's it.

Florida has had 3300 deaths due to Covid 19. I think it’s population is around 21.5 mm. My calculator is broken. Can someone do the math on that for me?

3300 dead in the first quarter of the pandemic.

Thats 3300 spouses without their partner.

3300 funerals that likely wont be held.

3300 families in mourning, from 1 disease, in 1 state.

How many do you want to see before you put batteries in your calculator?

Ken07AOVette 06-25-2020 01:21 PM

We are going to find out just how bad it is in the next 15 months. They have been saying 18 months all along, now with people throwing caution to the wind everywhere we are going to find out soon.

There has been suspect data tracking in Florida...however the deaths continue to rise.

Once in the elderly population it will greatly increase the numbers unless they get really lucky.

The greatest problem is you suffer an accident and need am ICU bed...and none are available. That is the greatest risk.

It still looks like two key factors of death are diabetes and obesity.

Death rate in New York was 10 times higher. How can that be? What would the cause be?

Ken, what would you have the world do?

Proximity maybe. Planting infected individuals in nursing homes maybe?

CaberTosser 06-25-2020 01:38 PM

There’s no old people in Florida

My Two Centavos . . .

.
Is this the beginning of the 'Second Wave' in the USofA, or just a continued building of their 'First Wave'❓ In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter ... if yer dead, yer dead.

And in spite of border crossings being partially restricted, there's still Way too many Yanks being allowed into Canada right now ... I say keep them 'Out', until they get their Act together ❗

Meanwhile, 'back at the ranch', US hospitals continue to fill up with COVID cases . . .

Seriously? Planted?

What was shown was increased spread when you have a staff member who works in multiple seniors facilities.

Was proven in US, Europe and Canada.

Definitely hits seniors the hardest.

Would be great if people just followed the social distancing/mask rules. Would be interesting to see what would of happened.

As it stands now the US is on pace and plan to essentially let this pandemic runs its own course.

For the most part I think the majority of us have the right idea. Lessen the curve. Avoid contact. No big meetings or gatherings. Work, raise your family, become educated as we were before it hit.

I am going to continue as I am now, no funerals, weddings, avoid bunches of people as much as possible, do everything I can to not get sick.

Haven't been out much, went out to china tire last week,( gloves and mask) and we went shopping early this morning (gloves and mask). I was looking for yankee plates as the RCMP have been busting them in the valley but all I saw were a lot of BC plates, which is fine by me as Horgan was in the news telling Albertans we are once again welcome in Bring Cash. So if you see yankee plates just do the right thing and call it in. They have a God given right to spread the plague in the good ol USofA but not here, until trumpty dumpty invades.

It looks like they are exploiting a loophole, that can cost them a pretty big fine if they are caught.

Their current mortality rate is 3%, 18% end up in ER. With 5500 new infections a day currently, they appear to be just a head of a pretty big wave......

It’s really nice that you don’t have to be near anyone at work so that you can pay the rent and feed your family.

If everyone took that degree of care the virus would burn itself out in no time and we could go back to our lives as normal.

Yeah, ok whatever. I have to deal with people daily. I take precautions. I just don't lick people faces and stay away from crowds, but say whatever you want. Also I haven't rented in 30 years.

Don't fall into the same trap I am in

jeprli 06-25-2020 03:44 PM

NYC is bad because their facilities are shared as in many other US hotspots. Shared meaning facilities are housing mentally ill, paliative care patients, long term care...and so on. No wonder their cases were so high, add to that minimal staff numbers.

So called experts and top doctors are oblivious to the problem since it doesn't make money and has no worth in self promotion.

How do health experts approve such a facility is mind boggling.

I'd wager, quite bad.

EZM 06-25-2020 04:10 PM

If we were to go back and look at threads 90 days ago people would have laughed if anyone said there would be 122,000 people dead and 2.4 million infected before the end of June and the situation in the US is getting worse as new infections break records every day.

They would have thought you were grossly exaggerating, over reacting and panicking. You would have been laughed at, mocked and dismissed by many people on the forum who were lining up for a drink of Kool Aid the president was serving.

No intelligent person would deny this is about to get very bad in the US.

I would not be surprised if there were 250,000 to 300,000 people dead by the fall.

If this thing goes another 18 months and we continue to deny this is an issue and minimize, blame, deflect and ignore it in the US millions could die. Millions.

It's particular insulting to the people of the US, that the leadership fails to take affirmative action on this, continues to lie and minimize the impact, while they, as privileged people can hide and isolate themselves while the rest of poor suckers go to work and risk our families lives to protect the wealth of the privileged.

Of all the countries on the planet, I never would have guessed the US would take a leadership role in how best not to mitigate a pandemic.

Meanwhile - business as usual - nothing to see here ….
