Down Under Fishing Report Sharks/Rays/Squid
Figured I would post up my fishing experience from Australia.
Was in Queensland and turned my focus on catching sharks. Was part of a tagging program in Florida and have decent experience catching sharks from the beach. Set out first to catch some bait. Sting ray being the best bait. Found a nice area and caught some small sharks just on a shrimp gulp bait. Turned my focus on the bigger ones. I was using circle hooks for easy releasing and my first few hits I lost since I let them take the bait a little too long. My leaders were only 100lb wire and they bite it off like nothing. I set my drag tighter and had the hook set almost too early. Sharks come back so I figured it was better than have them break off with the bait. Ended up catching two decent black tips. All safely released. Kangaroo Island is a fisherman's paradise but I had almost no luck. In 5 days of hard fishing I only managed 1 squid. Lots to learn. Australia has some great fishing and the scenery is amazing. I will be back with more men and more equipment next time. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...2/IMG_4894.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...2/IMG_4826.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...2/IMG_4821.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...2/IMG_5037.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...2/IMG_5040.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...2/IMG_5246.jpg |
That squid is pretty cool looking.
Amazing how sharks can bite through wire like nothing. |
