Does anyone else pack a gun in the summer?

I always try and have one handy for various activities. Especially in large carnivore country. Anyone else?

bessiedog 07-05-2020 07:24 PM

Just the 30-30 when I’m going way in to hang a game can or 2.

Not sure ya need one if your running a saw.....that’s have to be one goal oriented bear.

Twisted Canuck 07-05-2020 07:24 PM

Usually have my BPS camp gun around with 00 Buck and slugs, in case I see a coyote sneaking up on me.....

Most of the time a Ruger guide gun.
Sometimes a 22.
Almost always have something in the truck or on the quad.

Here is the problem carrying a gun.
Say you have a rep for always carrying. Say someone else shoots something in your area. Who are they going to blame? If its a grizzly they will make your life hell.
Say you have an enemy. Easy for them to lay for you and say you drew on them.
Damned no matter what you do.
Well I guess stay at home and say or do nothing ( sarcasm)

If you have a known reputation for carrying a gun, you're doing it wrong.

Bigwoodsman 07-05-2020 09:25 PM

Nope. But I do carry bear spray and try to be bear smart. Never been a problem so far.

Wow, you really must be a big bad hombre of the highest order....

Or let’s face it you’ve got a bigger issue and it ain’t being a big bad hombre.:sHa_sarcasticlol:

RZR 07-05-2020 09:30 PM

Never carry one.

catnthehat 07-05-2020 09:40 PM

There is usually one in my truck, and always a shotgun and .22 when I head to the lake.
Over the years I have had to dispatch several animals that were hit on the road, so the .22 is normally in the truck.
However, when I am out hiking up here I rarely carry one unless I plan on doing some target shooting, I carry my bow however for shooting stumps and other targets of opportunity.:sHa_shakeshout:

Pathfinder76 07-05-2020 10:13 PM

I’m always target shooting. :-) In my bow hunting days we called it stump shooting.

Fairly easy to rule you out. Just because you carry a gun doesn't automatically mean your screwed. 5 easy pieces of evidence can rule you out.
1. Caliber of firearm
2. Type of bullet
3. Type of brass
4. Striations on the bullet
5. Where you were when said incident happened.

As for the enemy...not even going to bother answering.

Most days I don t have too reach far for a gun. summer, winter, spring, fall....my firearms are every day tools that get used, and practiced with. I never hike without a rifle unless in a park where laws don't permit

Same here. Usually carry my M94 Trapper in the summer.

Grizzly Adams 07-06-2020 07:32 AM

Depends on where. Some place like K country, I'll settle for bear spray, but I have a friend with a grazing lease, artillery at all times.

Grizz

W921 07-06-2020 07:34 AM

Fordtruckin if you happen to own a popular caliber that was used in a crime and you were in the area are they not going to just charge you ?
All that CSI stuff you are talking about I'm guessing would take years to get in Alberta. If you had to hire a lawyer and go to court it would be very expensive .
Dicvk284 Some people dont have much going on so sometimes they make up stuff to try to bring others down. Example you shoot a big elk and instead of being happy for you they make up lies about how and where the elk was shot. You know the type.
As for the enemy, dont hire a local person unless you are sure of them because if it turns out he is on drugs and stealing from you and you fire him then thats how you make enemy's. Say that guy hunts on forestry next to your cows. Makes things uncomfortable.

I'd like one even when running saw. Trust the gun more than the saw. Who knows what kind of whacky things you'll run into.

With my luck, it would be one of them hippy guard bears, so messed up it doesn't even hear properly! :bad_boys_20:

This isn’t gonna end well.
