Shooting App
Are there any shooting apps out there that can get in the ball park of bullet drop so you can get some idea of the elevation adjustment in mils needed to get on target.

Are you strictly looking for an app on your phone? I use a Kestrel 5700 with elite ballistics. Once I have all the info gathered and entered then it’s super precise with generating bullet drop at any range.

Most accurate I have used is the Applied Ballistic program paired to a Kestrel or a Garmin 701. However unless you are shooting a lot in different conditions at extreme ranges the Hornady 4DOF is excellent for a phone app.

The Hornady one looks nice but I’m looking for one that can do .22LR ammo mainly.

I run strelok pro. It has been very accurate for me it even has all the 22lr ammo or bullet BC in its database. Strelok pro has both a huge bullet/ammo database and scope reticle choices. I've tried most of the apps and while applied ballistics is good and does come up with good accurate dope strelok seems to be just as accurate and has so many more features.

I would like to start the PRS League and some of the targets will at a distance that will require and adjustment for zero. |

Strelok also has a free app if cost is a concern. As I am basically cell phone illiterate when I first started out shooting .22 at longer distances I used this website to get my trajectory information, it is simple and worked quite well. https://shooterscalculator.com/balli...tory-chart.php

Another vote for Strelok Pro. That’s what I use.

I use the free version of Strelok for my drops when out target shooting. It works for me, but I also know the BC of the bullets I am using and chrono speeds.
The online hornady one is good as well and the numbers I get are the same from both. Whatever one you use keep in mind that not all work "offline", I dont have cell reception where I target shoot so the Hornady one wouldnt work for me while shooting. |
Shooter is by far the best I’ve used…..I found it more user friendly than strelok

One of the reasons I bought Strelok pro was the backup from the supplier, he is really good at it, he gives a damn. The Kestrel 5700 Elite was only really justifiable for me if I was going to shoot comps like PRS etc. Ballistic X looked pretty good too, but, only avail on I Phone, wasn't buying myself an I Phone, or an Ipad, may as well buy the Kestrel in that case.

I've only used Shooter. I bought it a decade ago and so far it hasn't let me down. I find it easy to enter guns, bullets, and zero data. The ballistic calculator has always been accurate.i like that it backs my loads up to a web database so when I get a new phone it pulls my data for to the new phone.

I just use the free online JBM calculator to get on target at longer ranges.

I use Ballistic ARC by Geo Ballistics for Android.

Haven't looked at that one in a while, that's what I was thinking about in saying Ballistics X. Wasn't aware they'd enabled Android version. Have to have another look.

I use the free version of Strelock and have for about ten years. It works fine. The free version does not accesses the data base, you do need to know your velocity and bullet B.C. Once properly input I have found it very accurate. You can adjust the B.C. so it matches your drops at distance perfectly.

So I purchased the StrelokPro and have been just loading my info I noticed it asks for scope height is that from the centre of the barrel to cross hairs? Why would that matter if it zero at “X” distance?
Also what is the twist rate of a .22 does that change with manufacturers? I’ve tried google mine but no definitive answer. |

Take the diameter of your scope tube + diameter of bolt ( on an open top type action) or action on a closed top type and divide that in half. Add in the distance between top of bolt( action) and bottom if scope tube. That is the #. This data does matter as distance increases.
As for ROT you can do it the old fashioned way using witness marks and a tight patch on a rod. Mark the rod at your "start" and your "finish" of one full rotation. Measure between marks and that's your ROT. |
So with the scope barrel measurement does having an 20 MOA rail impact that measurement?
