Words/Phrases That Drive You Bonkers

After 20 years in my soon to be former industry......surrounded by potheads......the word 'Cheers' makes me want to scream.

Second place goes to 'Like'......:angry3:

Any thoughts?

slivers86 08-11-2011 12:06 AM

oh my gosh...

just say god... okay?

sheephunter 08-11-2011 12:09 AM

"Them" used in place of "Those"

Them guys that do that drive me nuts!

"Congrads" It's "congrats" as in short for congratulations.

"Yous" as a plural for "you"

K...rant over.....cheers!;)

Lefty-Canuck 08-11-2011 12:09 AM

I cringe everytime I hear the word....discharge....no matter what the context.

Yep. Me too.

Although I can't help but think that the "discharge" comment is bringing back some terrible memories from the '60's for poor RedFrog.

It bugs me a bit when people use the word 'utilize' when 'use' will do just fine.

Big Daddy Badger 08-11-2011 12:28 AM

Your instead of you're
Their instead of they're
Dropping the u from words like colour.
Center instead of centre
Caliber instead of calibre

Deers being used as a the plural for deer.... fishes instead of fish in the same context.

yo... ho... peeps... disrespected as in you disrespected me...

I need to stop...I'm going to cause a brain bleed here...

TreeGuy 08-11-2011 12:31 AM

Bullet instead of cartridge... especially when they fire the whole cartridge out of the muzzle in moves. >.<

Person: Pass me the bullets!

Me: Don't you want the rest of the cartridge too? I promise it will work better!

Touché. I'll stop.

TreeGuy 08-11-2011 12:46 AM

This ain't a grammer/spelling thread boys. I'd be throwing stones in a glass house if that was the case.

What do people say that drives you bonkers?

bigbuck19 08-11-2011 12:46 AM

Loose/lose :thinking-006:

TreeGuy 08-11-2011 12:46 AM

^^^^^ Generally with Mrs Tree, the word is "NO!"

bigbuck19 08-11-2011 12:48 AM

I hate when people say "champ". Or "derp".

Okay, then...when people speak (or write, in formal contexts) with texting abbreviations, like LOL, OMG, etc. I grit my teeth every time I hear one of my students say "That was, like, so LOL."

BBJTKLE&FISHINGADVENTURES 08-11-2011 12:50 AM

Ive got a list of words that annoy me.

# 1 HUN - I AM NOT ANYONES HUN , A FAVORITE OF WAITRESSES .
#2 LIKE - Like shut the hell up and stop saying Like ever 2 seconds
#3 OMG - Wow that's gotta be the brightest thing ive heard come outta your mouth . :mad3::mad3:
#4 Dear , I am not your dear , I am not dear to you I eat DEER . Also a favorite of waitresses :mad3:
# 5 Cheers - When your drinking you clang your glasses together and say cheers not randomly .
#6 W T F - Whats wrong with saying it the proper way . Ive been busted of doing it as i'm sure some of you reading this , yes you the guy laughing because you know its true WTF is wrong with you . Popular of annoying sisters and other young people her age .

I think that's it for the words that make me go bloody nuts . In fact gets me to the point I openly say something . Now I gotta go wipe this discharge from cheersing to many time Like man it felt good but WTF is wrong with me . OMG I cant believe I just said that Dear god save me .

WCTHEMI 08-11-2011 12:51 AM

I always get lost thinking about hunting when someone says "dear" and it used to mess up my dates!

alacringa 08-11-2011 12:56 AM

How about people who don't use nouns? I love my mother, but she's horrible for this:

"Could you pass me the thing please?"
"Which thing do you need, mom?"
"The thing over there -- the one that I need to do the other thing."

Seriously, if I had hair, I'd be pulling it out at that point in the conversation.

Edit: also applies to the use of the terms doohickey, thingy, and whatchamacallit.

bigbuck19 08-11-2011 01:04 AM

Being called "Ma'am"

TBark 08-11-2011 01:07 AM

Plethera, from 3 Amigos I think, ha.

But I hate "git er done"
Sorry no offence top AO member by that name.

Bought a cargo trailer 2 yrs back, had a big "git'r done" decal on the back.
Scraped the sh*t out of the back end to get that decal off.

Words to make me cringe."Is that another gun?"; "Don't you have enough"; "NO"; :shark: And my least favorite....."I think you get enough". ;)
