Who also is scouting Good Luck 2019 season

sanjuanworm 08-21-2019 06:39 AM

I start in May. In July alone my cam took 10,000 pics of deer. It’s like a farm in My spot. This is probably my last year bow hunting. I passed on deer 3 years in a row so hopefully this is the year. Some bruisers in there.

Doing scouting for our local early goose season Sept 14... but can't stop thinking about our trip up starting on the 20th. Looks like the Canadas are starting to flock up a bit... all local birds I assume? Have any specks shown up yet or are they still a few weeks out?

Another week til the zone opens, this was yesterday. Was surprised at how few fields are harvested as of yet, almost the only thing off the fields are peas, very little barley off yet, almost none. Did pass thru a zone that was open and shot a teal for Tuck to retrieve, blooded the hammergun.

Looks like silage,,,, Like 32-40 said,, not a lot of harvested fields yet,, I am waiting till we can get some of our peas and barley off before I get serious.

Certainly a good hunt to start the season on!

Put on 17.7 km and a friend of mine got within 60 yards of this little buck when he got busted by a doe that was bedded in-between them.

I travelled about 200km east of Hwy 2 on Sunday, there were some very few scattered baled barley fields, bulk of the peas were off. Only saw 6 combines out in the fields, all within a mile of each other. Saying crops aren't ripe enough yet.

We also had a foggy, fun September first.

How is migration up North?

I'm assuming the wet year is making for late crops. quite a few ducks around East of Calgary but mostly local birds.

astepanuk 09-03-2019 02:05 PM

Birds in Fort McMurray are pretty stacked up. Seeing large flocks going over head Dailey.

You can say that again...lol. Tons flying by the last couple days. I spent the last couple days out north of Fort McMurray looking for a real early bull moose and even saw a couple flocks that had landed on some back 40 roads.

Couple here from the last couple of wks, specks have not been great in cooperating so far, ducks have been pretty good. Typical clear, no wind mornings as usual. Wind never picks up until we pick up dekes. Been shooting baled barley fields and one peafield. The peafield worked the best so far, tried one barley shoot by pushing bales together, sitting under them, one with slough edge cover today. Specks have been changing fields regularly from evening til AM. 5 shooters for both of these, 3 adults and a 13yr old and a 10yr old. Kids have been getting specks and ducks. 10 yr old's 1st crack at it last weekend, 13 yr old's second season.
Beem using a new FAIR Iside Vintage 20 ga SxS hammergun up until near the end of today's shoot, ran out of ammo, forgot the second box in the truck this AM, had to switch to the 12ga for the last 1/2 doz shots. Sure like that little hammergun.

Nice shoots, fellows! Since there's no shortage of local Canadas and the specks move early I can imagine there's plenty of both around.

How about the mallards? Anyone seen any decent numbers or big mallard feeds worth setting up on?

Duck Hunting this Mornnig

32-40win 09-16-2019 12:59 PM

Depends a bit on the ducks, if they want to fly around the goose fields. Field on Sat had maybe 50 ducks over it, the one on Sun and last Sun had 1000+. The Sat field had lots of mallards and pintails on the ponds within 5 mi of it, they just weren't following the geese.
