Humminbird Helix 5 GPS G2

Anyone running this unit ice fishing? Hearing some places that the GPS doesn’t work in Canada.

Is this true?

Thanks in advance

They probably mean is they have a map chip that is not canadian lakes in it or no map chip at all. Location has nothing to do with the gps in this part of the world.

Without the chip does the base GPS work? for example if I want to mark coordinates ice fishing will the unit be able to show that waypoint?

Been running one for 3 years and it’s great. I use a zerolines card and make my own maps, but it will still mark waypoints and tracks without a card. The zerolines card just allows you to build your own bathymetric maps using Autochart.

I made a couple YouTube videos of it on the ice and I’ve posted them on here before. A quick search should show them for you if you want.
