Tikka T3X Cabela’s Canada Special Edition Bolt Action Rifle
 

Hi Everyone. Figured I would get peoples' thoughts on this as I find it discussed at length anywhere else.

Main marketing features as far as I can tell of this package are the a) over-sized bolt handle, 2) additional grip components, 3) set trigger, and 4) muzzle brake.

Does this justify the price?

For comparison purposes, Sako's A7 roughtech pro is roughly the same price point. Mentioning this particular model, as the Sako A7 is roughly the big brother to the Tikka.

Tikka t3x lite - $959
Muzzle brake - $150-250
Set Trigger - $ ?? (what thats worth will vary for each person ie how badly do you want one)
Camo and improved grip - $100 (?) (I personally don't care about camo so I dont give it much weight in terms of worth.)
Oversized bolt handle - $100 (slightly above what a person could track down for a replacement bolt)

The math gets close to the asking price. Personally though, I dont think I can justify 50% increase for a polished-up Tikka T3 for the same price as the Sako Roughttech, considering the upgrades that the Sako still has over the gun.

Interested to get the conversation going on the value of these special edition guns and whether you think in this specific case the asking price is fair.

I was wondering the same thing about this rifle.

Not to bash the Tikka at all (I am a new shooter so what do I know), but I like the idea of a true short action so Tikka was never in the running for me as I was looking at the short action calibers. Though in a practical sense I guess this doesn't matter too much - but may to you and could be another plus for the A7.

BTW... the A7 is the nicest feeling rifle I shouldered when shopping for mine, but I couldn't quite afford it.

Ya can buy a stripped 700 action a lillja barrel new trigger stock recoil lug mag conversion installed chambered Glass bedded trued action and muzzle breaked ready to go for about 2000-2500$ (~On my last 2 builds ).

You need to ask your self if your that much of a tikka fan that you want to put that much into a factory rifle and or how soon do you need a new rifle. I like my custome rifles much more than I liked my factory guns but if your shopping around it can take 5-6 months to get everything together.

The tikkas shoot good so does the factory 700 the custom builds shoot great. For that sort of cash I would be save if up a few more bucks for exactly what I wanted no regrets.

I had a T3. It was good, but it was nothing special. It's not the end all be all that so many guys think it is, not to me at least.i prefer my 700's. I just picked up a Kimber that's great as well. The Qeatherby Vangaurds are a better value for the money in my opinion. Either that or just get a standard Tikka.

Why do you want a muzzle brake? Is it a hunting rifle or target? If a hunting rifle, what is a set trigger going to give you over the standard?
Do you like the standard stock? Oversized bolt handle can be nice but any good gunsmith can do that for you.

The muzzle brake would be a deal buster for me (and it would likely limit resale value down the road).
When you are buying a new rifle and paying for options, think carefully about how much you will use and appreciate those options. Similar to buying a car, the options often add substantially to the original purchase price but they rarely add much to the value when you go to sell it……

I have a Roughtech Pro. One of the features that sold me on it is the stock design. It's an aluminum chassis that the rifle sits in. Chassis extends through the stock. Very well done. Can adjust length of pull too.

Tikka really doesn't offer anything that's better to me for the price.

Its all marketing to me, designed to sell to impulse buyers. The only feature on this gun I do like are the Cerakoted, although not really necessary on a stainless barrel and the ovesized bolt handle.

There is nothing on this special package that is desirable if you have a single clue. Keep going past this one.

a) Cerakoted stainless???
b) Set trigger on a hunting rifle???
c) Muzzle brake on a hunting rifle???

This gun epitomizes the saying "A fool and his money are soon parted!"
