Granite or Quartz
Doing a reno and looking at Granite or Quartz. Anyone have an idea what kind of cost sq/ft. for this kind of material I would be looking at? I'm sure it's a broad cost range.
Thanks, |
Hi - I just went through this with my reno. Cost is very comparable between the two (far closer than I would have thought). There is a massive price range as well depending on what you are looking at. As an example for the same square footage one product was $6k the other that looked very similar was $14k.
You will need to figure out (roughly) what you need (sq/ft) and then shop around to get an idea of price. Regards, |
If the price is close I'd recommend quartz. We went quartz in the kitchen of our home, but went granite in the rental condo. Quartz is stronger and doesn't need the regular maintenance treatment granite does.

Maybe consider a counter like this.

Working on having a new house build quoted and discussed this with the contractor. I havnt seen the numbers yet but he said higher end granite will be similar in cost to lower end quartz. Quarts was more durable and easier maintenance but granite would be better for resale.

Look at concrete
The last two houses we build we did in concrete and they look amazing by I will say not as durable as aforementioned options |

But I would be in jail for killing the first person who did not use a cutting board. |

I went Quartz because of the better selection of colours.

Got a quote today for 8 sq/ft. of Quartz to go onto a vanity. 1900 bucks w/install. Thought that was quite pricey!! |
Not a penny over $60 / sq.ft installed for quartz or granite.

We did quartz and are happy.

Lol... What is lumped in as a Granite or a Quartz is often misleading or outright wrong. Worry less about the generic name of the stone and focus more on the individual piece. |
