Gopher patch shooting rest-what do you use?
 

Last time we went out I took along a large rolling briefcase. It worked pretty good, I put my shooting bags in it and when I got to a good spot I put the bags on top and had a decent rest. Well this got me to thinking maybe someone has come up with an even better “mobile rest?”

What do you use?

we havent used it yet but im pretty sure we finally got the "ultimate gopher rig" both my shooting partner and I have benches that the table swivels in all directions so the rest never needs to move. what makes the setup now though is the flatdeck trailer. we have 4 jacks mounted on all corners so once you find a suitable spot you use the jacks to level the trailer and your good to go!

if your looking for simple walk around rest i choose a mid size bipod and shoot from sitting.

Nice rigs but way too heavy to move around the field.

Shooting sticks (pole cats) and a lawn chair..easy to move and can cover the entire field...I thought about the trailer idea as well and I think it is an awesome idea..just harder to find a field with enough gophers to set up for the day.
I also have an RCBS Rapid Acquisition Shooting System (RASS) it works OK but the four legs make it unstable on rough ground.

I just use two tripods and a lawn chair. One for spotter, one for gun.

For moving around with a rimfire, the Primos Triggersticks Tripod, for centerfire sniping, the Caldwell Stable Table.

Hence why we moved them onto a trailer. Just drive to the prefered patch and get to shooting

Backpack, fence post, or offhand

PRST tripod with Sunwayfoto XB 52 GNN low profile ball head with ACRA Swiss plate. This setup is much more stable than one would expect. Works from prone to standing up.

3 leg stool and a cheap camera tripod

Cheap to buy, really fast set-up, can sit two guys, works left or right handed. Truck makes a nice shade tree, put it in the truck legs open and chair still set up for quick moves around the field.

I prefer a setup similar to Dean2. Stable and it fits in the truck.

If I can't take the truck into the field, I like laying prone using a bipod as a rest.
This would primarily be for centerfire but occasionally I'll shoot my rimfires from prone. Binoculars, ammo, water etc usually goes into a 5 gallon pail. The pail can serve as a seat when glassing, having a sandwich or just unkinking my neck.

If I'm walking and shooting rimfire, I bring the bucket but I'll sit on it while shooting. I use a homemade set of shooting sticks inspired by Varmint Al.

I do a fair bit of walking around and shooting off hand, maybe your location works well for the setup, it does look well thought out, but Id be hesitant to take that with for the hassle of setup and moving it unless I owned the property and had a good spot to shoot.
