BC Sturgeon Fishing Trip

My little brother wants to do a sturgeon fishing trip on the Fraser this summer for his stag. I’m all for it. We will likely rent 2 boats and require accommodations nearby.

What is the best time of year to fish the Fraser? Any suggestions on the best sturgeon outfits to go with, and/or ones to avoid? We wanna catch some fish and have lots of fun.

Thanks!

If you have a boat and electronics I would hit the lower Fraser without a guide

I might even be willing to help you out with information. Last guy I helped did really well. I would have to check my PMs for the size and numbers he caught

If you are going to hire a guide go river monsters because they area is a nicer, less pressure, and some good fish

A few years back we went with cascade fishing adventures.

We got on some really nice ones and numbers too, had a blast!

We've always used Robert at Kilby Lodge. His outfit is top notch and there's plenty of fish. Prime area that's a little less pressured.
If I wasn't booking with Robert it'd be River Monsters or Yves Bisson.

Thanks gents. I’ll look into these suggestions.

Sturgeon Hunters out of Chilliwack was really good. Been there twice and can't wait to go back again. Steve was really good to deal with and his guides are top notch!

Hayden at Champs Sport Fishing Charters for sturgeon is the best. Does the clear water of Harrison (nothing cooler than seeing a huge sturgeon swim 5ft below boat, which you can't do on Fraser....but he also fishes the Fraser for quantity!) He is super outgoing and knows the river as good as anyone. You will catch fish and have a ton of fun (great sense of humour and good banter), which is just as important. I've been with several and with Hayden I've had by far the most fun and caught just as many fish! Honestly, no brainer for me! Also he makes a killer marg in his blender!

I know sturgeon was closed to fishing (even C&R) at one point when did it reopen?

White Sturgeon fishing in the Fraser River and the Harrison river has been open for quite a few years for catch and release fishing. There are "no fishing areas," for instance to protect spawning sturgeon on the Fraser and Harrison Rivers, but it is up to the guide to know these locations.
That is why it makes sense to go with a reputable guiding company with a few years under their belt for Sturgeon fishing.

Just realized I forgot to mention it was the Harrison that experienced the closure in my other post never the Fraser

The Fraser has never closed to C&R but at one point the Harrison did close. This I believe that was over 15years ago. It’s been a long time since I have looked at regs for the Harrison so didn’t realized it changed.

This was do to the Harrison being viewed as spawning grounds.

Had to look check the regs for my own curiosity and yup Harrison is good to go again

Rivermonster adventures in Lillooet is the one I went, we caught 10 sturgeon that day, largest was 7'8.Everybody in family had such a great time and Nick is the best guide you can ask for.

Great River Fishing Adventures. You can go out of Chilliwack or Hope, I’ve done both Hope is better, will do Hope again and again hopefully. Biggest one we landed was 108”. What a frikkin battle! Second largest that day was a bit over 8ft. I think that day we landed 8 fish. I’ve fished hope since that day and we always got at least one big one. Big as in 8ft plus. Breathtaking scenery there as well.

Gone out several times with sturgeon slayers, always caught lots of big ones, several times me and the wife have even been doubled hooked at the same time. Now that’s intense fighting two at the same time.

Their social posts look like they are fishing the canyon. Lillooet area?

Chad McAdie 'Fishing the Fraser' 604 845-0522 Chilliwack. He grew up on the river and works hard.

I've fished with him a few times. Never caught a big one, 9' is my PB but lots of fish.
