I popped the Dino cherry! First Sturgeon !

The day was slow and I patiently waited almost 12 ours but in the end it paid off. This guy came in clutch at the very last minute. It made the entire day worth it! The main reason why I don't sturgeon fish and i've never caught one is because every year when I try it for 5 hours anmd i get skunked I dont try again till the next year. Now I see what the thrill is. He was worth the wait. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7cdb90bdfd.jpg |
Congratulations! Nice size fish for AB waters too!

Congrats Huy, well done, nice Alberta sturgeon. I can see you adding a Fraser River sturgeon to your fishing bucket list.
The thrill of catching them never goes away for me. Caught my first one when I was 14 (many, many years ago) in northern Ontario. I find that I have to go to the Fraser to feed the addiction every few years. |
That's extremely cool! Well done.

Well done Huy!!!!
Thought I would see the yak in action…haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Congrats and completely understand getting bored soaking bait. Alberta’s lake sturgeon is the last freshwater species I have to check of my list out of what swims in BC/Alberta. I just prefer lure or fly fishing and just can’t get motivated to bait fish especially solo
Nice fish and congrats again |
Thrilling for sure! Congrats on a beauty

Very Nice
Only fish left on my bucket list also. I have caught 10lb+ Walleye and Lakers 25lb+ Pike so know what they feel like. I have hooked a couple Most notably the first was on our first ever Canadian fishing trip after emigrating in March 1969. Dad bought a 1966 Ford Fairlane S/W got his fishing License and Family went to where the Whitemud enters into the NSR totally new to fishing in Canada we were using our UK gear 9 foot split Bamboo spinning rod with 5lb test line Hooked up and we chased it down the bank got a good look at it as it rolled before it broke off. Three more in the past years that were never seen but that huge power run then gone lol Last hook up that felt like one was on the Pembina where it runs into the Athabasca 2015 Only rumors that they are in that watershed it Sure felt the same power wise def not a pike or big Walleye. Had an otter grab a good size well hooked Grayling that was very similar till the hook pulled out lol |
Thanks everyone! Honestly I was ready to fall asleep most of the time. My butt was sore from sitting so long and my back was aching. I might bring something to distract me next time.
I caught this guy using just a simple slider rig and a 3/0 octopus hook.65lb main line and 50lb tuf sturgeon leader line. 9 foot Heavy moderate rod. In case anyone was wondering. |
Wow nice fish. Congrats!! Thanks for the deets. What kind of bait?
|
