Albino perch
1 Attachment(s)
Was out Saturday all day, lots of hammer handle no walleye and 6 perch all released but I did keep this one. When I pulled him up at first I thought it was a white fish but when i looked closer it was a white perch with blue streaks on its tail. I am thinking of puting on the wall just because it is such an odd colour.
Should i take it in to F&W or should i not worry about it? Has anybody else seen an albino perch? |
Tough to tell Chuck with the ice encasing the fish. But you can see the color of the fins pretty good. Man, they sure do look white hey.....Looks like a decent perch as well. For what i can see there, ya, id need to see it thawed out abit, but for sure a trophy of a lifetime, and one for the wall in my eyes!!!
keep a strain on er. |
Before i take it in, i will thraw it out abit and take a few more pictures. I was pretty choked when i went looking for my camera on the ice and realized I left it in edmonton. (doh)

I caught a brookie in a stream once that was living under a tree sticking out in the water and the sun would only hit part of the fish were he was in the hole and when i pulled him out of the water i went what he was half dark and half light like he had a suntan.........go figure hey
|
Me thinks ya had that guy in the freezer to long.

[QUOTE=Lethalconnection;121733]Fish dont lose their color from being frozen too long:rolleye2:[/QUOTE
Yup , they sure do. |
My first time catching pike at Gull my dad and I caught about 4-5 in a row that were all albinos. Not even a hint of green on them. I thought that was norm at the lake but I have never caught one like that since at Gull.

I have seen Walleye have there colours fad in the summer time once they are dead but have never have caught an Albino before. This one will go on the wall just have to get a hold of my taxidermist. |

They arent going to loose that much color though, the color will fade but not completely disappear such as the fins, they arent going to go from orange to clear! |

Here is another picture of it thawed out at the taxidermist.

!!
that is super-wierd chuck!!!!!!!!!
other than the wacky paint job it looks healthy and fat!!! very odd indeed!!!! |
it isn't an albino (it wouldn't have any dark pigments at all) but probably just a light colour morph.
Weird lookin fish either way. Good catch. Not sure I'd spend the taxidermy money on it but whatever floats your boat. |
camera in edmonchuck

Yeah id definitely say its safe to say it wasnt left in the freezer too long:rolleye2: Neat lookin fish.
|
As was stated earlier, this is definitely not an albino, but it is most definitely a pale colored perch. Albino's lack any dark pigmentation and will have a white/reddish colour with red eyes. This is simply a light coloured perch and the lightest I've ever seen. Nice catch and no reason not to put it on the wall (unless it goes into your belly where it belongs)

:)
Beautiful fish!!, If it was mine I would have it mounted as well. |
yea i have never seen one with that color on it, not only is it a buty perch but for the fact of the rare color i would mount it also,,,,your taxidermist is gonna have a good time painting that one now that we all know what it looks like on camera. should be a awsome mount.
|
Ya, thats right hey. What an awesome fish. The colors are unreal, and the fins are near transparent. Like gunslinger said, should be interesting to see how the paint turns out. Make sure he has lots of photos.

When i dropped it of to Wildlife Originals they said they will be taking alot of picture to make sure they get the color correct. I should have taken a picture of a perch they had done already on the wall it was 17 long. It was massive, i held mine (12 1/2" long) up to it and it dwarfed it.

and that's what happens when you accidently drop your fish in a bucket of bleach  ,
Nice fatty albino perch ... BTW, what lake was this pulled out of ? Cheers! |
Fawcett lake.

Albinism occurs in all animal life including humans, so it very well could be a albino.

There isn't much of a reason an albino perch couldn't be out there but this isn't one of them. There were some pics of a white moose floating around here somewhere. I think that one was also just a white morph but I didn't really get a good look. |
That's a pretty funky fish and amazing it got that big given it would stand out like a piece of white chocolate. Looks like an albino to me - and yes albinism can have degrees of pigmentation. And red eyes only show up in albinos where pigment is entirely or nearly entirely lacking.
