Do crazy people fish the NSR in March

I was driving under the Quesnell Bridge today by Ft Edmonton and I'm 90% sure I saw people on the north bank fishing into the open water.

Is that crazy? Am I crazy for wanting to try it?

I was on the River fishing open water twice already, by Rundle Park. Once with pickerel rig, other time jigging, didn't catch anything though. But had a hit on worms.
But if you wanna see something crazy, than check this picture out!

FYI it is now illegal to ice fish the river(or any river in AB for that matter). I don't think it was in 2015 when you did it but it is now.

10. Ice fishing: Angling is not permitted through the ice; a) into beaver ponds or b) into flowing waters.

Yes open all year if open water...but as the general regs for the zone clearly state... Angling is not permitted through the ice... B)into flowing waters.
