Central Library

As RavYak mentioned, the copy at the Central Library is definitely worth spending a few evenings there and taking some notes.

I just picked up a cool book all about the bow I'm not sure of the name but I'll post it here when I get home and take a look at the title.

justin g 07-31-2018 12:53 PM

I also have a copy of barry Mitchell's trout highway I found it last year in a little fishing shop so there are still copies out there to be found . Maybe I lucked out though

Bigwoodsman 07-31-2018 03:01 PM

I got a copy for myself last week off of Ebay, not as sweet a deal as some of you found and got for yourselves, but at least I got my copy and it will remain with me for eternity.

So far it hasn't made me a better fly fisherman!!

You don't catch trout reading a book, just get out there and do it!

Oh I'm out there fishing with the fly rod! I was just saying what you did only using different words.

I'm enjoying my book, too!

The book I was talking about earlier is called " barry whites intimate secrets about fly fishing - My bow river"

Got a ton of information in it like hatch charts and reading flow patterns and all that . Not through the whole thing yet but so far it's pretty good.

fishinisgood 08-03-2018 08:02 PM

I’ve been reading some of Barry’s stuff and all I can say is “Wow. If only I could spend a day on the river with him. Truly an artist, in fishing and writing.

Sorry for digging up old threads, I stumbled across this. I’m glad to see people enjoyed Barry’s book, oddly I’ve never read it even thou I think I have 3 of them all autographed P.S I will never sell them sorry! I have the pleasure of living next door to Barry and his wife. I miss him, we had lots of talks over the fence. My son from the time he could talk would chat with Barry thru the fence, Barry would always stop and chat. Our only regrets was Barry had planned on taking him fishing but sadly became too sick and it just never came about!

He was a Great man!
And a Great neighbour!

Do you still have a copy of the Alberta Trout Highway for sale?

eagleflyfisher 03-08-2020 08:31 AM

And how about Jim Mclennons Blue ribbon bow, a true classic.

spurly 03-08-2020 10:06 AM

Book

There is one on Kijiji for $180

Rocky.Mtn 03-09-2020 11:39 AM

Check out your local library!

Tempo 03-09-2020 07:30 PM

As Rocky.Mtn suggests, go to your local library. If the book's not there, order it for free through interlibrary loan. Then photocopy the relevant sections. Simple, informative, and cheap. Or snap it with your phone. Even cheaper.

whoever owns the rights to publish the book.......should print more books.

DUH.

Its not like getting a pipeline built in this country. It should be easy.

WillyOneStyle 03-09-2020 09:20 PM

If Barry only knew his book would become such a collectable! Books like this are great to read right at the end of hard-water season (like right now). It get's you fired up for chucking string. After you spend a fortune on the book you will end up spending another fortune buying tackle, tents, 4x4s etc. so you are ready for the mighty trunk road. At least how it goes for me.

-It is nice to see that the trout pond at Heritage Ranch in Red Deer has been named the Barry Mitchel pond.

Ken07AOVette 10-11-2020 05:43 PM

I have a signed one, wonder what its worth?

$1000 easy, based on the outrageous prices people pay for these.

I have a copy of Haig-Brown's A Primer of Flyfishing, 1st Edition (iirc) in dust jacket, with a note in it from the previous owner about Haig-Brown speaking at their club and a folded newspaper clipping holding some flies tied by Haig-Brown from that presentation.

I'll start the bidding at $1500...

If you have a book. PM me a price. I can then decide if I am willing to pay that much.

One'n'Done 07-27-2021 04:46 PM

Don't want cash but I'll trade for an Islander IR or Hardy reel in repairable condition

smitty9 07-27-2021 06:14 PM

I have an extra copy

Of course, my price is both ridiculous and unreasonable.
