New Archer Question

Hey everyone. So i took my new to me APA Viper out to the range today. It has a hoyt pro series 5 pin sight on it. I sighted the top pin at 20 yards and it was shooting awesome. My question is how do I set the other 4 pins and is it 20,30,40,50 and 60 or should I have sighted the top one in at 10?

I set mine 20-30-40-50-60, but a buddy sets his 25-35-45-55-70

Set them for what ever makes sense to you and your style of hunting/shooting.

If your gonna be hunting with it is say keep the first pin at 20, chances are your not going to shoot an animal closer than that and you sure wouldn't be bumbling with a rangefinder at 10 yards. You should be able to move all your pins with an Allen wrench.

Myself and most guys I know go 20 on the top pin and in 10 yard increments from there. Once you get your 30 sighted, take the gap between your 20 and 30 and repeat that gap between all your pins. Make the just a little bigger with each pin as you go. This will get you close. Then shoot, shoot and shoot some more to confirm point of impact.
Good luck, have fun with it!!

Gonna need to find a place with plenty of space. I also found this app called uno that can really help with sighting in with range distance challenged placeshttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...ff9619cafe.jpg
Picture helps show what the app looks like. It tells you the info you need once in the app and sets the pins distance for you

sight pins

When I started bowhunting 30 years ago I had 5 pins at 10 yard increments starting at 20. In hunting situations I found I spent too much time counting down my pins for the correct yardage. I went to 3 pins set at 20, 35 and 50 and that worked well for me for a lot of years. With the improvements in bows etc I have now gone to 4 pins at 20, 40, 60, 80. and that works well for me.

im gonna go against the grain here. I like to have a 10 yard pin. at least half my kills have been there or closer. At that distance you don't have time to think about hold over/under, your shot sequence must be as fast and smooth as possible because chances are the animal will be alerted by your draw.

Now if you only EVER take broadside, shallow angle shots shots... shooting at 10 with a 20 yard pin probably won't matter...but that might mean the difference between passing the biggest buck of your life, or your only opportunity of the season. I am very comfortable and successful taking frontal shots (and even the verboten quartering toward shot), however this requires extremely precise arrow placement. I can do that better with a 10 yard pin. Not recommending it, just saying. Flame suit on.

Also, depending on your arrow trajectory vs sight allignment, you may be able to use a 50/60 yard pin as a 10 as well. Try it and see what works best for you.

I use my 20 at distances 8-20. I shoot in my basement everyday I am home at 10yards or less and my 20 yard pin puts me about 1 inch high at 10.

:D My pins are 20-30-40-50-60-70

at 10 yards I am also 1" plus...22 yrds 1" plus low...any shot aiming dead on with 20 yards is killing gopher size critter ...or an animal heart...doesnt matter where in the heart you hit em....lol

Mind for five yards I use my 40 pin...dead on!!!
