I enjoy each photo that is posted on this thread every year, great to see different photos from across the province.
And a couple more, old cabin on the line. 8x12 and no insulation on the walls, just a bare trapper cabin. The lake is where a previous trapper would fly in on floats late fall and stayed at his cabin trapping till spring. he had a personal record of over 400 marten, trapping 650 sq miles! The Caribou mountains have a rich trapping history, and still continues on today. |
Otters

Here are a few Otter pics from the weekend. The biggest male was 66" nose to tail after boarding. Ended up with 6 Otter from this area in a couple days. Had a good couple days Otter trapping.

That is the mark from the bottom jaw of the trap, so yes. That one was caught in a 280. I find Otter caught in 280's or 330's are almost always suitcased. They move incredibly fast. 220's are the best, always get head shots, but not a ton of places to set them. They will not go through a 220 unless it is concealed well on an entrance. The Otter caught in 330/280 like this don't even struggle, might flip off the slide trail, that's it.

If you look closely at the put up Otter on the right, you can see both bar marks as it is completely dried.

Guys/Gals I only wish I had the time to put into a line out west. For now I'll have to settle for living vicariously through all of you.
Here are a few pictures from this season. Only ran one bait on our land but had a great time. Got the boy out a bunch, 3 years old and still thinks I'm cool so heres to hoping. Even momma came out for a couple checks and carried a dog or two out of the bush. Hope you enjoy the pics. On to beaver for the spring. http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/z...123_150511.jpg http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/z...111_184906.jpg http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/z...111_162541.jpg http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/z...13_1656090.jpg http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/z...121_061607.jpghttp://i840.photobucket.com/albums/z...211_172411.jpg |
Great pics Spot and Stock! I've got young kids as well and they absolutely love the Muskrats. I think my daughter would prefer if every trap held a muskrat. It's probably because they're her size and she can haul them around and dry them off. We've had some good family days trapping this winter as well.
