Looks very good. Let us know how it shoots.

Busy scraping off the heavy factory finish off a couple of stocks, a BLR for a friend that will that will be redone with Bitchwood Tru- Oil, and the AO rifle which I am painting in metallic Indigo.

I have two 25-06 AI rifles. One is a Cooper and one is a Savage with a custom stainless barrel. The cooper is a 26" barrel and the savage is a 24". I just finished working up a load that shoots great in both so I only have one type of ammo around for both to avoid problems. The 26" cooper shoots the 80gr ttsx at 3916fps. And the 24" Savage shoots the same load at 3874fps. Both are grouping 1/2-3/4 moa. My kids both shoot normal 25/06 with the 80gr ttsx at 3748 and 3681fps. Over the last five years we have proven this bullet is a deer killing machine.

That's what I've been doing in my reloading room lately.

I use my cooper mostly. But I use the savage when I hunt out of a canoe.

I’m pretty sure N570 should not be called “powder”.

….they should call it trees. :angry3:

side cutters are necessary

Smokinyotes 05-08-2024 06:47 PM

How does it meter through the V4? Last night I set the target on my V4 without having the cup under. CFE 223 everywhere, that stuff is like pepper.

Well…it has got to be the worst extruded powder to throw. Each piece averages around .08 of a grain. So side cutters are needed. If people b1tch about Varget, I just laugh….they ain’t seen nothing!

I persevere. But it’s not a quick endeavour.

And as far as you forgetting the cup under the thrower…the worst thing like that I did was put powder into cases without primers. Messy too.

But it taught me to never drink alcohol when loading.:sign0176:

good scotch, stupid mistake

I installed another epoxied in steel pin just to be safe. drilled and tapped for weaver bases and installed a scope. shortened the lop by 1" and reinstalled the recoil pad so it follows the line of the stock. Built 3 boxes of shells for it. Now to test it for accuracy. this has been about a weeks work.

Found a load that looks good. 51 grs of IMR4064, and a 165gr bullet, gives .664" at 100 meters.

First rounds for the new 6.5 PRC rig. Fourteen for barrel break-in/scope zeroing. Then six different charge weights with six rounds each. This first test is mostly speed related. And to get the feel of the short magnum round. Also to fire form the brass. (I’m not a fan of virgin cases during load development.) This will give me 50 cases that are fire formed so I can measure them and gauge my shoulder bump. Also this virgin brass has not much neck tension. That I will also adjust after the first firing.

Well yesterday I got around to switching out the scope on my CZ 527 .223, mounted up an Arken EPL4 - 4 - 16 x 44mm and then spent some bench time sighting it in and running it up and down to ensure it tracked, which it does beautifully, very nice scope.

Then today I rolled up a couple hundred vermin exterminators as my supply was down under 100, Sierra 52 gr HPBT matchkings ahead of 25.5 gr H4895, Fed 205M primers, not overly fast @ 3221 but very accurate in the CZ.

Got a farmer friend with a beaver problem and it just happens to be in the 1/2 section of pasture that I also shoot gophers in, gonna make some noise and send some furry little creatures to heaven tomorrow :sHa_shakeshout:

FINALLY finished up the AO rifle!:sHa_sarcasticlol:
It was shooting so well I never bothered to paint the stock, just left it like a rat rod.

I took the new SA magnum rig (6.5 PRC) out today. I loaded 47.0gr of N570 for the Berger 140gr Hybrid Target bullet. That is a load below the minimum in the Berger manual. I did this for a reason. That being a soft break in for the barrel, fire forming some brass to get shoulder measurements, and to get the scope somewhat close.

The first shot was 9moa low, so I was off and running. One more round to get it very close to a zero. The speeds were slow. In 10 shots, the speed averaged 2266fps out of the 26” barrel.

So, success in my first outing with the new rifle. I was pleased and I didn’t try to do too much. It was cool today, with temperatures around only 10c. A bit too cold for the very slow burning N570 powder.

I had 6 different charge weights with me but I chose not to start the load test.

The rifle was accurate enough too. My last four shots went into two different holes.

loaded 150 rounds of 95 grain Match Kings for the .223 Jim Dugan/Bill Wylde built TR rifle that I will be shooting next week in our 300 and 500 meter match.
Jim figured after 35 years or so the main spring should be replaced, so I sent the striker assembly back to him after our last long range match and he installed a brand new spring!:happy0034:

Loaded some 32-40 Win for my old model 1894 I got last year when my dad passed. Hasn’t been shot in 60 years. Tried some black powder loads with a 170 grain cast bullet from Jet bullets. Bullets all tumbled. Stumbled onto a load on a lever forum using 2400 powder and cast bullets. Had a pound of 55 ish year old 2400 from my dad’s reloading stuff. Found a load with 13 grains that shoots great and will be used on deer this fall. Loaded up 40 rounds with brass I made from necked up 30-30 brass.

6MT 05-28-2024 09:08 PM

Finished loading 7 charge weights for my second 6.5prc test. The heaviest is not quite a compressed load. I’ll be shooting these this weekend in the new prc rig.

6MT 06-12-2024 10:20 PM

I surpassed 2k rounds shot in my 6.5x47L rig. So I thought I would remeasure the CBTO for the 139gr Lapua Scenar bullet. I was surprised to find that the throat has .0295” wear. It still seems to be very accurate.

So I’ll be seating the bullet out further to keep my .010” jump.

I also found a load for my new 6.5prc rifle. So I rolled up a hundred rounds and I’ll be zeroing the scope and stepping it out to see how it performs at distance. And also to see how it tracks to the dope my Kestrel gives me for the data inputs form my developed load.

Smokinyotes 06-13-2024 08:04 AM

What powder and bullet did you end up loading for the PRC

6MT 06-13-2024 06:09 PM

N570 with Berger’s 140gr Hybrid Target bullet.

I walked it out to 800m today in blustery winds. A bit frustrating. But it tracked really well with the dope from AB in my Kestrel.

mryimmers 06-16-2024 06:15 AM

Not "in" my reloading room, but went to a local gunshow yesterday morning and scored a brick of LR primers for $120.
Pretty happy about that.

elkhunter11 06-16-2024 06:37 AM

I made a powder bushing to load 28 gauge with W572, since I can't find Universal, and will be switching to W572. I didn't have a #13, so I drilled and polished a #11 bushing.

catnthehat 06-16-2024 04:35 PM

Tore down my drilling and fixed the rifle firing pin/selector issue.

Sometimes things just work out for the best, Wednesday I had the overhead door company come in to replace the springs on my garage door, one broke so I did them both, anyway yesterday morning I pulled my truck out and went to lower the door, it went down about 1/3 of the way then bang, with avengence they didn't tighten one spring enough and the bull gear jumped the heifer shaft both cables jumped off and cha ching that was that, door stuck so while on security detail waiting for them for come fix it again I figured ok got lots of brass waiting so may as well get at it.

Prepped 350 brass for the 223 ready to load again.
Prepped 53 brass for the 7 PRC ready to load again
Prepped 105 brass for the 6.5 PRC ready to load again.
Then prepped and loaded 100 rounds for the 6mm Creedmoor with 105gr Barnes match burners and 40.5gr IMR4350.
Those were a mix of 50 lapua brass with small primer pockets that got CCI 450 SRM primers and 50 Hornady brass with large primer pockets that got Federal 210 primers that should be a good sample size lot to test to see which shoot better and by how much, will check velocity, ES and SD and average group size.
What started out as an OH crap day turned out not bad.

Bought a new short action customs press. Now to figure out how to install it.

6MT 06-25-2024 05:57 PM

Nice Mark!

Smokinyotes 06-25-2024 06:40 PM

Very nice Mark. You should install it vertical. If you leave it in the horizontal position your powder is going to fall out of the cases. :)

Finally got it mounted. Had to get a new cabinet for it, so its been a process. Glad its completed. Thankfully I have a great neighbor who helped me out.

Resized 20 pieces of brass. Used the new SAC die and the press and modular comparator kit. The press was smooth and effiecient. Worked like a dream. If your thinking of dropping the cash it was very much worth it (for me anyway). The lever is a thing of beauty in the way it functions, very smooth and precise. The die is the nicest I have ever used. Very finely machined. The shoulder bump was within 0.0005 each time so very precise. The comparator kit is high quality and much nicer to use than the standard Hornady lock n load that I have been using. This stuff aint cheap but in my mind its worth every penny. Pretty happy about the new purchases. I have the seating die on order, pretty excited about it having a mitutoyo system.
