Lots of great taxidermists in this province. It all depends what your getting done in my opinion. Just because his deer heads are great doesn't mean his cats are great and vice Versa. Visit the shop and see the animal that you are planning on getting done and look at his examples of that species. Its worth the extra drive to visit the shop first. Some guys use 4-5 different taxidermists for different animals and there is nothing wrong with that.

and half of them guys don't even know how to mount a bird :)

Do your research. Like shaw said it depends what you're getting done. I send my taxidermy work to different people. Some people can be national/world champions at one type of animal and be just average at another. Guys or gals will get something back from the taxidermist that they love and swear allegiance to that taxidermist for life essentially turning their blinders on. So much emotion when it comes to taxidermy!! GLTA this year !

Some good points guys, thanks. I'll be visiting a few shops and go from there

Ben is the best!

Ben at Art of Taxidermy in Lethbridge is the best in birds and mammals.

He won the nationals this year.

Just have to wait your turn!

And some do. But I'm speaking about big game heads.

i honestly love my heads that shaw taxi has done for me and won't be switching anytime soon, that being said artistic is leaps and bounds ahead of sugar creek imo. game heads are his specialty , deer and sheep in particular. you shouldn't need professional pictures and lighting to make your mounts look good and that is the angle that SC uses. at end of day you have to be happy with it and we all are partial to the places that have done our trophies. let us know where you end up going

Sugar Creek proof is in the pudding his business has grown because of the quality, but what's also better is he is honest and never slanders his competitors just does great work and does everything first class right down to the photos.

Alberta taxidermy

I have a goat tag this year and will be taking it to Alberta taxidermy if I get a good one he’s done a few of my deer and I’m very happy with them great people to deal with as well.

Sugar creek does great work and is straight up honest, like others said stop some different shops and check out the mounts, you'll find what your looking for.

Sry to hijack this thread but what is an spproximate cost for a deer euro? Just the euro, not including plank/board to mount on. I've always done euro's myself but may consider getting a couple done by a taxidermist.

Anyone know if the taxidermist's that sponsor this site give members discounts? :thinking-006:

$150-250 is pretty much the range I have seen.

JB Taxidermy by Lyalta

We have mounts 20+ years old that looked like they came out of the field yesterday!

Euro's are not considered taxidermy, IMO..

Interesting that after two pages of bickering, Canada's best hasn't even been mentioned... Ken Walker.

I'm just not sure he would take on a simple shoulder mount these days.

I had my Mulie done by Brian and it is awesome. Couldn't be happier. Saw many Lopes he was working on (one finished beside my mount) and they were all amazing.

Smoke m taxidermy just opened in edmonton. Check him out on face book. He just mounted the wolverine with the deer for me. His attention to detail is one of a kind and all his mounts tell a story!

mhd 10-26-2017 10:59 AM

Thanks for all the input guys. Dropped him off with Brian at Artistic yesterday. :sHa_shakeshout:
