I was at South Buck last weekend and there was water flowing out of the holes submerging the tent with 2 or so inches of water on the ice. Enough snow to be of concern breaking trail too. This was on the west side of the lake a couple miles north of town. Only around 16 inches of ice.

Made it out Pigeon twice yesterday. Got there bright and early at 6:30 a.m. Only one there. Had the truck. Blazed a new trail out to the ice. Started off okay at Golden Days and then quickly hit two big areas of flood water. I bottomed out for a long way. Glad I pushed it a bit hard to not get stuck. I was lucky. It was -29 to boot. Turned around and found a better path off. Cleaned the shorts at shore and then headed home to get the skidoo.

I was up and fishing out deep by 9:00 a.m. Not bad! I was fully alone until a nut in a truck came from the PP side. Good thing he had a winch because he used it at least half a dozen times and dug out at least 3 times. Needless to say, truck travel is not a good idea right now. Skidoo was just fine and stayed up on the crust. No issues. Quad might be a bit difficult.

Fishing sucked. I drilled about 50 holes and covered about 1 km distance. Covered from 23 feet to over 32 FOW. Only marked a few fish and saw none and caught none. I'm sure the weather did not help. At least with the sun it was nice to hole hop. Oh well. Onwards...

Any update on how the lake access is for ones around Edmonton? Was wondering about taking the kids out to Lake Isle or Lac La Nonne but do not have a snowmobile and don't want to spend the day shoveling.

Car went through at taber sugar factory this am in middle of lake in a thin area. Have piks of us getting it out if someone want to post if I send to you

I was at Lac La Nonne a week ago and the road out from the grocery store to where the shacks are was good.

Poppa 03-20-2020 02:51 PM

anyone been out on Gull in the last week? We're thinking of popping out that way on Sunday just to get some fresh air (but hopefully avoid people!) and hoping I can still drive on out there...

alacringa 03-20-2020 03:28 PM

Anyone been to Ghost recently? Planning to walk on, but I know the area just South of the boat ramp sometimes get thin early.

Can anyone tell me what the access is like at Sylvan for RR23, Halfmoon and Norglenwold? Also are the trails packed down pretty good or if there are bad drifts at any of them?

Thanks in advance!

Backwoods Runner 03-21-2020 12:38 PM

Was at Wilson beach access last night. Very deep hard drifts and one lane travel to where shacks are. Definitely need good 4x4. West side much better.

simpatico 03-21-2020 01:00 PM

No issue at Lac La Nonne

North side all good

SNAPFisher 03-21-2020 03:01 PM

Pigeon, trucks forget it. Quads ...not a good idea. Just two of us out in the middle. Caught walleye on my white hooks. No whites. Dumb ass walleye :)

Helped a guy get back off the lake at Golden Days. Young guy only brave enough to try and get on. Didn't work. They looked really tired out by the time a bunch of us helped them out and off.

Long Lake ( Boyle Area)

Was out Friday. Lots of ice at the 5 areas I tried. Couldn’t get on the perch. A few small pike. Snow is about 7 inches above the ice and I thought it would be more. Follow the trails and if you get off the trail make sure you have some speed. Top is crusty. Never saw flood water.

Anyone getting around on Pigeon at Mulhurst or the north shore with a pickup.

As long as they had the ice golf, you should have a good beaten path. It was nice and quiet out where I was.

Edit: Oe is the I've thick enough to walk/drive on? Any tips?

Was out yesterday, lots of vehicles on the ice. Need 4x4 to get around, some flood water close to shore.

Ice at Slave Lake Narrows is thick enough to support two helicopters (see them in the background), for those of you that use your personal choppers for ice fishing.

Saw these two flying low over us at the narrows on the 21. We thought it was FW.

That's the way to get on the ice without getting stuck!

Cool photo! A diesel 2500/3500 series truck weighs more than both of those choppers

Ice Condition - St. Paul Area

Heading out for last weekend and wondering ice conditions St. Paul area lakes.

Thanks in advance.
Tony

I was at Ghost, Lawrence on Sunday. You will need a sled. Almost got into a bad situation with the Truck. Flood Water is a real thing there.

DeanHrehirc 03-25-2020 02:53 PM

Fished Slave Lake at Canyon Creek March 6th, easily over 3 ft of ice out there. Fished Hilliard Bay on March 21 ice was under 3 ft of ice. way more snow on lake there than at canyon creek, therfore more ice at Canyon

Gbuss 03-26-2020 05:22 AM

Any info on lac la biche? 2ould like to head up their in the morning?
